Episode Two
Gene Hunt and Alex Drake investigate a bomb plot related to the redevelopment of the Docklands. Threats have been sent to the police, and the Bonds family, who own a pub in the Isle of Dogs, are staging a protest at the compulsory purchase of their premises by Dockland developer Danny Moore. Alex believes that the potential bomber is a young man called George, the son of the pub's landlord David. Fears are heightened as it is the week of the Royal Wedding between Charles and Diana and the threat is confirmed as real when a dog is blown up after grabbing a stick of dynamite.

Alex comes across her lawyer mother, Caroline Price, when she represents George during the interviews at the police station. Their first meeting is embarrassing for Alex, as Caroline walks in when her daughter is about to have her bottom rubber stamped by Gene Hunt as an initiation for a new member of the team.

Danny Moore, the target for the next bomb, takes a shine to Alex and asks her out on a date to the Blitz nightclub. They bump into Chris and Shaz during their visit, although Alex experiences sinister visions and flashbacks and soon leaves. Later, she turns up at his flat intending to have sex with him - only to find him in the act of coitus with another female.

Alex is distraught when Caroline wants her to become a mole for her, and points out that she is better served looking after her young daughter. There has also been plenty of friction between the pair during the interviews with George. Gene Hunt correctly figures out that David Bonds must be the bomber because of his previous wartime experience in the army.

At a street party to celebrate the Royal Wedding, George Bonds arrives and blows himself up outside the pub. Alex is shocked, as she earlier explained the concept of suicide bombers to him while trying to coax a confession out of him by sympathising with his devotion to his cause.
