Alex uses psychology during her interview with Gil to regress him back to the robbery, giving the police more clues when they return to the scene of the crime. A nervous live television appearance by Gene, suggested by Alex, fails to impress his fellow officers. Gene observes a group of ska-loving youngsters occupying the street that the robbers' car was supposed to have sped down. They are brought in for questioning and their version doesn't correlate with Gil's story.
Gil is attacked by Gene and Ray Carling in the interview room, prompting Alex to enlist lawyer Evan White to represent him. Gene is put on leave after Alex reports him to his superior officers. He later returns to the office and happens to notice something on video footage of Gil's car from the crime scene. He observes that a toy cat attached to his window has dried blood under one of the suckers.
Alex examines the cat and smells ammonia, usually found in chemical toilets. The team investigate a chemical toilet near the crime scene and find a gun stuffed down a U-Bend, leading everyone to believe that Gil had shot himself, faked the robbery and automatically put the cat back on the window afterwards.
Gil later opens fire on Luigi's restaurant and is chased by Shaz, who is stabbed when she tackles him and falls on his knife. She dies, but is resuscitated by Alex as her male colleagues pummel the fallen fundraiser.
