Warning: This entry contains spoilers about series two of Survivors which some fans may prefer to avoid!

Last week Survivors made a welcome return to BBC One for its second series - but after just one episode, it's been yanked from the schedules to make way for the footie! Well, where the BBC fails to fulfil its public service remit, Tube Talk is more than happy to step up to the plate. To tide you over until next week, we're offering up a hitherto-unseen interview with Phillip Rhys, who plays loveable narcissist Al Sadiq. As rumours circulate about which of the survivors is headed for the chop, we caught up with Phillip to make sure that we haven't seen the last of Al.

What's in store for Al for the rest of the series?
"Obviously he's had the near-death experience and those moments under the rubble give him time to take a look at his life. He realises that he's never been in love - he's never been intimate in an adult way. So basically, he falls in love!"

Who's the lucky lady? Anyone we know? Sarah, perhaps?
"I think so, yes! She's gorgeous - he's got great taste. It's great to play this character-driven storyline alongside the high-octane drama. It's another side of Al and it's great."

Do you think they'll work as a couple?
"Well, when it was first presented to me I thought, 'Wow - that's gonna be a tough one to pull off'. If you remember, last year she betrayed him. But yes, I think it will work. They're both narcissists who live their own lives the way they want to, with very little care or thought for others. As crazy as it is, the virus has made them better people."

Adrian Hodges, the creator, mentioned that one of the main characters will be killed off. How soon into the series does that happen?
"I can't tell you. You don't wanna know!"

How did you feel when you were told about the death?
"I understood it. For the sake of the show, it worked. Any of us can be sacrificed and we get that. We didn't know when we got recommissioned that one of us would be going, and I don't think they'd decided who yet. But it's good - it's the right decision. I'm sure the person who got sacrificed is a little bummed... but who's to say it's not me?!"

Do you think it's the right character to lose?
"Well, once they presented it and set it up, then they made the storyline logical for that point to play out. It's very good."

Are we talking an accident? Murder? Suicide?
"I'm not saying! It's too good a show - it would spoilt it."

How is Al affected by the death? Does it hit him hard?
"He's very, very traumatised. It's a harsh and dark world they live in."

Samantha's back this series. Is she still evil?
"What's great is that there are now anti-heroes within television shows. Look at Max Beesley's character and Jack Bauer on 24. There are lots of shades of grey and that's the same with Samantha's character. If you were in their shoes for a moment, you can justify why they behave the way they do. She believes in what she's doing. She wants law and order."

How does series two end?
"It doesn't clear things up nicely at all. It'll leave you wondering where the hell we go from here! It's pretty ballsy on Adrian's part - he just writes what he wants to write. He doesn't think about the consequences!"

Survivors continues next Tuesday at 9pm on BBC One.
