'Demons' S01E06: 'Nothing Like Nebraska'

Just how quickly does Luke take the word of the happy medium as gospel, rejecting the opinions of his friends like Ruby? This is all a painful attempt to engineer a confrontation between mentor and pupil, as Galvin finds himself in the line of fire. After all the build up, the central clash is resolved in the space of a couple of explanatory sentences from Mina that reveal that Luke's dad had gone to the dark side. Luke buys it straight away. If Mina had told him that his mother was actually Adolf Hitler in disguise he would undoubtedly have hauled the poor woman off to Nuremberg without question.
As Thrip, Mackenzie Crook struts around in style, delivers his lines with morbid menace and is visually magnificent in his throwback outfit and hair. Yet there's no substance, no ingenuity to his character. He pulls a few strings here and there to manipulate Luke, but little else of note. He barely puts up any resistance when Mina attacks him. It actually looks as if he was just glad to escape the awful show.

An interesting twist occurs at the very end, as Mina turns fully fledged vampire, but it's all too late to kick this lacklustre show into life - or even half life.

Once you've made up your mind on a series you refuse to appreciate an episode if its good. you only focus on the bad things, its so annoying

I thought this episode was the best yet. Christian Cooke is excellent as Luke and yes he does take the word of the medium quickly. but it is believable as you cant forget he has just been attacked by a pyromancer plus its his dad, he barely knew him he would believe anything if he thought it would make him know his dad more. Overall it was a fantastic episode that kept me intrested throughout, i hope there is a second series. I do admit that the writers need to up their game as some of the episodes were a bit flat namely ep 3 & 5. But the actors are great and deserve most of the credit. I would've liked an explanation as why thrip survived from ep 1 though.

Even though this was another pretty pathetic episode, I am hoping that they get a second series and that they realise that they need new script writers as this show does have potential!

Like in the previous few weeks I think the DS review is too harsh and it seems to me to only concentrate on the bad and not the good. Luke, again, is the weak link in how he's written. The lack of relationship with Galvin does make sense now as it allowed him to easily turn on his mentor but it definitely happened too easily still and more reason was needed. I liked however the revelation that Jay had turned against them (and not in a 'mwhahaha' evil way but a misguided manner). I also thought Phil was the strongest he's been all series, particularly in his conversation with Father Simeon. Mina losing control of her vampire side, having done it to save Galvin, provides the great starting point for the next story and I can only hope they get to tell it. There's enough promise here to warrant a chance to put things right. Unfortunately I doubt they'll get it.

Terrible end to a terrible show. Ill thought out storylines and un-engaging characters, with a special mention going to the incredibly wooden Christian Cooke. Hopefully Buffy heads over to the UK with a few wooden stakes and drives them into this show.

What the finale did do for me was show me what an awesome show it could have been if only the father had achieved what he set out to do- gave me the idea of a series where a boy, brought up by the half-life came back to find his mother, having to adjust to a teenage life/ school/girls while contending with the half-lives coming after him/calling him back, a demon hating god-father and a terrible legacy left to him by his father.
