It turns out our pilot reviews aren't over just yet! We've found a couple of hidden gems and first up is ABC's FlashForward, which I'm sure you've heard us mention once or twice before.

In a nutshell: The world is thrown into chaos when everyone blacks out for precisely two minutes and seventeen seconds.

Pilot premise: We're treated to the everyday lives of several different characters: two FBI agents, Demetri and Mark, (John Cho, Mark Benford) off to work a case; a successful trauma surgeon, Olivia, (Sonya Walger) operating in surgery; her intern, Bryce (Zachary Knighton), who is contemplating suicide; and a few other sub-strands. As each of the characters goes about their business, the blackout occurs, causing pandemonium left, right and centre. Olivia's operation goes horribly wrong, Bryce finds himself becoming a hero and rescuing surfers from the sea, and Demetri and Mark are involved in a huge highway pileup. Everyone - apart from Demetri - has a flash forward and sees themselves six months in the future. Said visions, which all take place on April 29, 2010, include a potential affair, the mysterious 'Mosaic', and an unexpected pregnancy.

The whens and wheres: ABC have announced that the series will premiere in the US on Thursday, September 24 as a lead-in to the sixth season opener of Grey's Anatomy. In the UK, Five has acquired the rights, but no start date has been announced.

Dan says: Overall, a really strong pilot with an intriguing premise. I found the characters to be likeable, and their individual stories - and the flash forward interruption - were largely entertaining. There are a lot of seeds planted in the pilot (the specific date, the flash forwards themselves, and the fact that Demetri doesn't 'see' anything) which drew me in, and I'm looking forward to watching the plot unravel.
