'True Blood' series two debuts to 980k

The terrestrial premiere of series two of True Blood failed to break the 1m mark on Thursday night, according to the latest audience figures.

A new episode of the vampire drama averaged a modest 980k (6.2%) for Channel 4 from 10pm, while just 51k (0.6%) tuned in on Channel 4 +1.

Series three of Law & Order: UK sunk to 3.89m (16.8%) on ITV1 from 9pm, down nearly 1m week-on-week. A further 158k (0.7%) watched the show on ITV1 HD.

The crime drama was outperformed in the 9pm hour by The Young Ones, after the factual entertainment show pulled in 4.12m (17.8%) on BBC One.

The One Show was watched by 3.74m (19.4%) on BBC One between 7pm and 7.30pm, before Watchdog grabbed 4.11m (17.8%) in the 8pm hour.

Earlier on ITV1, Tonight: Keeping The Faith? scooped 2.05m (9.8%) between 7.30pm and 8pm.

On Channel 4, Location, Location, Location brought in 1.97m (8.6%) in the 8pm hour and 336k (1.4%) on Channel 4 +1. Alan Davies' Teenage Revolution attracted 1.16m (5%) to the channel in the 9pm hour and 200k (1.2%) on timeshift.

Coverage of the Pope's Visit 2010 appealed to 1.2m (7.7%) on BBC Two between 5pm and 7.15pm, before Wild Summer River took 800k (4.1%).

Coast grabbed 1.98m (9.5%) on the channel from 7.30pm, before James Wong And The Malaysian Garden secured 1.11m (4.8%) in the 8pm hour.

Also on BBC Two, Gareth Malone's Extraordinary School For Boys grabbed 1.61m (7%) from 9pm. It was followed by Mock The Week, which took 2.08m (10.8%).

Live coverage of Liverpool's Europa League victory against Steaua Bucharest averaged 2.7m (11.9%) for Five between 7.30pm and 10.15pm.

BBC One won primetime with a share of 20.8% over ITV1's 19.3% (HD: 0.6%). Five came in a respectable third with 9.9%, followed by BBC Two with 6.9% and Channel 4 with 5.6% (+1: 1%).

Elsewhere, The Road To Coronation Street - a new drama about the famous ITV soap opera - brought in 852k (3.8%) on BBC Four from 9pm.

That was the second biggest multi-channel audience of the night behind a repeat of EastEnders, which grabbed 931k (4.8%) on BBC Three from 10pm.
