The Vampire Diaries dropped to 494k (2%) for ITV2 last night, according to early viewing figures.

The third episode of the supernatural drama, which stars Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, was down significantly on the first episode, which logged 847k (3.5%) last week. The second instalment managed 583k (3.1%).

A further 133k (0.7%) tuned in last night on timeshift channel ITV2+1 at 10pm.

BBC One's Survivors won the 9pm hour, drawing 3.82m (15.4%) with its latest episode. Its nearest rival, Channel 4's One Born Every Minute, managed 2.88m (11.6%).

CSI grabbed 2.81m (11.3%) for Five, BBC Two's How The Earth Made Us was seen by 2.77m (11.2%), and Amanda Holden's Fantasy Lives came last for the hour, interesting 2.08m (8.4%) for ITV1.

BBC One's Holby City came top during the 8pm hour with a respectable 6.36m (25.4%). Nearest competitors The Hairy Bikers and Cops With Cameras drew 3.34m (13.4%) and 2.54m (10.2%) for BBC Two and ITV1 respectively.

New Channel 4 series Jo Frost: Extreme Parental Guidance opened to 2.05m (8.2%), and Five's Ice Road Truckers put in 1.34m (5.4%).

Overall, BBC One dominated primetime with an average share of 23.5% to ITV1's 12.4%. Channel 4 was third with 8.9% (+1: 1%), followed by BBC Two with 9.3%) and Five's 6.7%.
