'Idol', 'Race' lead reality nods at Emmys

American Idol has notched up five nominations at this year's Emmy awards.

The top-rated reality show has been given the nod in categories including direction, lighting and sound.

The Amazing Race - resurrected after a surprise win at the Emmys in 2003 - has four nominations, as does the long-running Survivor.

In the reality-specific categories, nominees include:

Antiques Roadshow (PBS)
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (ABC)
Penn & Teller: Bullshit! (Showtime)
Project Greenlight (Bravo)
Queer Eye For The Straight Guy (Bravo)

Outstanding Reality-Competition Programme
The Amazing Race (CBS)
American Idol (FOX)
The Apprentice (NBC)
Project Runway (Bravo)
Survivor (CBS)

The ceremony will be held September 18 in Los Angeles.
