Classic Moments: Davros loses hand ('Dr Who')
Published Sunday, Jul 6 2008, 07:08 BST | By Ben Rawson-Jones

The Context
On the planet Necros, The Doctor discovered that Davros had been masquerading under the guise of The Great Healer - a benevolent figure claiming to have solved universal famine problems. However, it transpires that he's been using dead people as the food supply and turning live people into a new race of Daleks.
The Doctor, companion Peri, hitman Orcini and his wounded sidekick Bostock are all taken to Davros's underground lair and held captive by the Daleks.
The Moment
Davros is telling his prisoners about his new race of Daleks and is about to activate them. Out of his sight, Bostock crawls onto some nearby stairs and uses a laser to shoot off Davros's hand as he is about to release the Daleks. The scientist's digits are sent flying across the floor and a green ooze seeps out of the destroyed limb. Bostock is quickly exterminated.
The Doctor unsuccessfully tries to escape and is told off by Davros. "No 'arm in trying," quips the Time Lord.
Davros, clearly no fan of puns, snaps back: "When you become a Dalek, you will suffer for every indignity you have caused me!"
The Aftermath
Davros turned up three years later in 'Remembrance Of The Daleks' without any noticeable limbs, for he was based firmly inside the casing of the Emperor Dalek and only his head was visible above a mass of wires. Twenty years later, thanks to Dalek Caan's solo effort, Davros is plucked out of the Time War and emerges with an all-new metallic hand for him to point menacingly at a certain Time Lord. Now if only he could have some Botox too...
