Davies: 'Tennant could be OAP Doctor'

David Tennant could still be playing The Doctor when he is a pensioner, according to showrunner Russell T. Davies.

The head writer told the Sunday Express that Tennant may hold on to the Doctor Who role for as long as possible as he is enjoying it too much to walk away.

"David may never leave, he could go on forever... I haven't talked to him about leaving. Maybe it will never happen. Maybe he'll be 70 and have to be taken off set," he said.

Davies added that Tennant will be difficult to replace when he finally leaves the show, saying: "David has brought everything to Doctor Who... A lot of straight men don't handle humour well, but he can do the tragedy too."
