The writer used his new Twitter account to tell his followers that Matt Smith was back filming as the Doctor.
"Oh, he's back behind the bow tie - and better than ever," his first message read.
Earlier this week Moffat revealed that he was "going for broke" with the upcoming special which will guest star Sir Michael Gambon and Katherine Jenkins.
In another message, he added: "Best thing about this job, I get to watch Doctor Who FIRST. Ooh, look at that. And that. And blimey, THAT!!"
