The first image from this year's Doctor Who sketch for Children in Need has been released.

The picture shows Matt Smith in character as the Eleventh Doctor at the door of the Tardis, with just his braces and his gold watch visible. It ties in with the announcement that the Eleventh Doctor's costume is being auctioned for the annual appeal.

Smith said: "I saw Terry Wogan on TV the other night, and thought, 'Come on! Let's make more money!' So hopefully we can raise a good amount."

The actor had previously commented that his favourite part of the costume is the boots, although he described The Doctor's tweed jacket or bow-tie as "the most iconic" items.

Viewers can bid on the costume at www.bbc.co.uk/Pudsey between now and Monday (November 21). The lot includes Smith's tweed jacket, shirt, black jeans, black boots, braces, bow-tie and watch from sixth series episode 'The Doctor's Wife'.

The winning bidder will also receive a copy of Steven Moffat's script for the sketch which has been signed by Smith.

The annual Children in Need telecast begins at 7pm tonight (November 18) on BBC One.
