The BBC has released the first trailer for Doctor Who's seventh series.

The sci-fi drama's next run is expected to premiere in the autumn on BBC One.

The new clip - first screened for fans at the official Doctor Who convention on Saturday (March 24) - is mostly comprised of scenes from a forthcoming Wild West adventure, filmed on location in Spain.

The Doctor (Matt Smith) riding a horse, guest stars Mark Williams and Ben Browder, a Dalek and a new cyborg nemesis all feature in the trailer.

Six episodes of Doctor Who will air in 2012, with Karen Gillan (Amy Pond) and Arthur Darvill (Rory Williams) both departing in the fifth instalment, which will be shot in New York and feature the Weeping Angels.

New companion Jenna-Louise Coleman, who was unveiled to the public last week, will then join the show in this year's Christmas special.

Eight more episodes will then air in 2013 as part of the seventh series, with showrunner Steven Moffat promising further instalments later in the show's 50th anniversary year.

"There'll be more episodes than just those eight," said Moffat. "But these [14] are the ones we're making right now."
