The character was last seen in series six episode 'A Good Man Goes To War' and her return has prompted speculation that her lover Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh) may also be back.
Other pictures show Rigg, Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman - who will have only just become the Doctor's new assistant when the episode airs in 2013 - wearing similar outfits to Stewart.

The casting of Rigg and Stirling was only confirmed yesterday (July 2) and little is known about their characters other than they will be a mother and daughter with a dark secret.
The episode features what Stirling described as "a gift of a script" from Mark Gatiss.
David Warner (Titanic), Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones), Jessica Raine (Call the Midwife) and Dougray Scott have also landed guest roles in Doctor Who's seventh series.
