'Merlin' star Colin Morgan on 'Doctor Who': 'I won't play the Doctor'

By
Colin Morgan has insisted that he is not interested in playing the lead role on Doctor Who.

The Merlin star previously appeared in 'Midnight', a 2008 episode of the BBC sci-fi drama starring David Tennant as the Doctor.

"That box has already been ticked, but I feel very lucky to have been part of that," Morgan told the Radio Times. "It was my first filming job really, so it was a great thing to be a part of, but in terms of the future? Probably not."

The Irish actor then laughed off the suggestion that he could succeed current Doctor Who star Matt Smith.

"No, I don't think so," he said.

Matt Smith has previously claimed that he has no immediate plans to leave the series, adding that it would be "total madness... to be wishing [his time on the show] away".

"I take it year by year," he explained. "I love working for [showrunner] Steven Moffat. I love making the show, it's unlike any job I'll ever have."

Doctor Who will return to BBC One this Christmas with festive special 'The Snowmen'.
