'Doctor Who' to unveil new-look TARDIS in Christmas special

Doctor Who's TARDIS will have a new look from this year's Christmas special, it has been announced.

Steven Moffat, showrunner for the sci-fi drama, confirmed the change to the Doctor Who blog on the BBC website.

The interior of The Doctor's famous blue box has received a makeover from Michael Pickwoad, the show's production designer since 2010.

The TARDIS's refreshed look will then stay for Matt Smith's Doctor and Jenna-Louise Coleman's new companion Clara for the eight new episodes in 2013 in the lead-up to the show's much-anticipated 50th anniversary.

Doctor Who returns on Christmas Day for its festive special 'The Snowmen' at 5.15pm on BBC One.
