'Doctor Who' announces short story series from well-known authors

The BBC has announced a new Doctor Who story series in collaboration with well-known children's authors.

The series will feature original Who stories called "eshorts" in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the science fiction series.

Each short will focus on one of the 11 incarnations of the Doctor thus far, starting with William Hartnell and ending with current Doctor Matt Smith.

The first author's identity will be unveiled to the public on the official Doctor Who Facebook page on January 7, while the first story will be released on January 23.

There will also be a video of each author posted every month on its YouTube account, with the first video appearing on January 11.

The BBC revealed that a paperback of the stories will be published by Puffin in November 2013.

Publisher Juliet Matthews said: "We are delighted to have 11 sensational children's authors involved in the series, all bringing an individual style, imagination and interpretation to their eshort tribute to the Doctor."

Series seven of Doctor Who continues airing April 2013 in the US and UK.
