Horsfall is reported to have passed away this morning (January 29).

He was perhaps best known for playing Chancellor Goth opposite Tom Baker in 1976's The Deadly Assassin.

He had previously appeared as Lemuel Gulliver in The Mind Robber (1968), a Time Lord in War Games (1969) and Taron in Planet of The Daleks (1973).

The actor also had movie roles in Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Gandhi and Braveheart.

Horsfall returned to Doctor Who in 2003 in the audio production Davros.

Author and Big Finish Doctor Who writer, director and actor Nicholas Pegg wrote on Twitter: "Raising a glass to Bernard Horsfall: a fine actor, an imposing Time Lord, a wonderful Player King in the 1984 RSC Hamlet, and a super chap."
