The Doctor manages to avoid electrocution by his ID card and jams the offending device on a nearby Slitheen - with the feedback affecting the compression mechanisms on the other aliens. This allows Rose and Harriet to escape from Blaine and Jackie to have some momentary respite from the bogus police officer Slitheen in her home.
The Doctor quickly calls in the troops to witness the malevolent extraterrestrials, but they have quickly climbed back inside the skins of General Asquith and acting Prime Minister Joseph Green and order the soldiers into taking The Doctor captive instead.
However, the Timelord escapes and quickly hooks up with Rose and Harriet as they flee from the Slitheen. Locking themselves in the Cabinet room, it emerges that the Slitheen are a family from the planet of Raxacoricofallapatorious who are hoping to use the Earth as a commodity to sell as fuel.
Mickey has arrived at Jackie's flat and stumbles upon the Slitheen police officer about to attack her. Trying to evade capture, they speak to The Doctor via mobile phone and discover that vinegar can cause Raxacoricofallapatorians to explode. This tactic works for them, with bits of green Slitheen spraying across the kitchen.
The bogus Prime Minister, Blaine and Asquith are desperate for the United Nations to give them access to weapons of mass destruction to use against the supposed alien threat, which was in fact engineered by the Slitheen. The Doctor needs to act quickly to stop the weapons being turned against the earth, so he enlists the help of Mickey to hack into the UNIT website and launch a missile at 10 Downing Street. But can the reinforced steel exterior of the Cabinet room protect The Doctor, Rose and Harriet from the blast?
