When explaining his genetic switch, The Doctor explains it to a baffled Martha by quoting lyrics from the 1986 Human League song ‘Human’. “I’m only human, of flesh and blood I’m made,” he tells his companion, only for the clever pop culture reference to go straight over her head.
Eagerly awaiting the return of Captain Jack? Well, you’ll have to hold on for a while, but a certain Time Agent’s Vortex Manipulator makes an appearance.
Last season’s ‘Doomsday’ witnessed the Daleks and Cybermen appearing in the same episode – and here they are again in ‘Human Nature’!
Any doubts over whether Paul McGann’s stint as the eighth Doctor is canonical or not are laid to rest in this episode courtesy of a brief appearance.
Ooh matron! The Doctor has his hearts cut in half, only to have what’s left stolen by a lustful matron (sadly not played by Hattie Jacques). Before long, she’s sewing him back up again.
A schoolboy called Latimer has the ability to see into the future, and after coming into contact with The Doctor he has a vision and tells the time traveller that he will soon be reunited with his brother. However, The Doctor – operating under the guise of John Smith – has no idea what the young lad is talking about.
The English cricket team could do with a new bowling coach in the form of The Doctor. With a classical bowling action that Steve Harmison can only dream of, the time traveller demonstrates that his life-saving abilities with a cricket ball were not confined to his fifth incarnation.
