Ten hints about 'The Next Doctor'

Published Thursday, Dec 18 2008, 15:54 GMT | By Neil Wilkes | 27 comments
With much excitement, I toddled along to the press screening of the much-anticipated Doctor Who Christmas special this morning. There are a million and one questions surrounding 'The Next Doctor' - "is David Morrissey the successor of David Tennant?" being the chief curiosity - but in keeping with the spirit of things I'll leave that one firmly unanswered. Instead I offer you these ten tantalising teasers:

1. The mysterious Cybershades can jump quite high.

2. Neither the Doctor nor the Other Doctor recognise each other. But the latter doesn't remember much anyway.

3. There are two words that the Doctor never refuses.

4. The Other Doctor has a TARDIS - and it's magnificent.

5. For a while Rosita becomes the Doctor's companion (but then you'll know that already if you've read our interview with the lovely Velile Tshabalala).

6. The script includes the customary line "what about the children?"

7. At least one previous incarnation of the Doctor makes an appearance.

8. Miss Hartigan (Dervla Kirwan) is a very special lady.

9. The Other Doctor's fobwatch is a very important clue.

10. "I suppose ** *** ***, **** ***** ** *****."

As in previous years, it didn't live up to the hype

"I suppose in the end, they lived in peace." Okay so i got half that from the other page said, but still...

Is Rositta the new Doctor, that's the twist. The other Dr knows about the Dr from opening the Fob Watch?

I think this christmas special is gonna be UNREAL. I love Doctor Who and i love the Idea of Cybershades. Nasty Little Creatures

ARGH! Now I have to wait until Christmas Day with these teasers and theories galore rattling round my head. But I reckon that we are going to see Tennant's successor. After all, we have seen the current Doctor helped out by his predecessors before (2, 3 and 5 Doctors), so why now look at it from the eyes of one of those predecessors for a change.

There is a simple explanation to who this new doctor is. If the Cybermen come through a porthole from an alternate universe, then it is likely this universe also has its own Doctor. Things are a little different in an alternate universe, that is why we have David Morrisey who has also come through the porthole with the Cybermen. I don't think the BBC know who the knew Doctor will be yet as David Tennant is still filming the four TV specials for next year.

Oh dear lord! Simply can not wait till Christmas day. Bet you everyone is going to feel really stupid when its over - it's probably annoyingly simple.

i heard somewhere than david walliams could be in the frame as the next time traveller

The way they done the Titanic was good but not brilliant, the effects still prove the show is given a low budget by today's standards. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the show, but I can see its cracks. I think the best episode thus far was the latest season finale. The BBC should get their heads out of their backsides and put more money into their shows.

Lee, if DW was on later with deeper / more graphic storlines then it wouldn't be the same show! If you want more adult sci-fi there is plenty out there to watch. DW is a family show and should be kept as such. It is the younger fans that have driven a lot of it's popularity after all... Back to clue number 10 - can I buy a vowel?

Other Doctor is 'Our' Doc's future self being done up fob-watch style, Other Doctor & Rosita.. 'Our' Doctor & ROSE....

Lee, stick with Star Trek, [pat on the head] thats a good chap. back to topic how can u say this is a clue 10 . "I suppose ################" ?? I agree with the possibility of and Alt-Dimension doctor, but only 6 days to go till we all find out. Merry Christmas all.
Ski, on December 19th, 2008
Well, we'll all have to wait until Christmas Night wont we? Although I think I'd quite like David Morrissey to be the next Dr, in the trailers he seems quite Tom Baker-esque...

Lee, What the heck is wrong with the effects on the current Dr Who shows? I think they've done a marvelous job! Heck, the way they filmed the Titanic crashing in the TARDIS alone was brilliantly done (consider that the set is not 360 degrees, so they had to turn everything around to show the Titanic entering at the angle it did). I'm not that fond of the Xmas specials in general (they are a one-shot deal usually and I like story arcs), but with rare exceptions I've found the special effects to be...well, ... brilliant! And if you could look at the budget under which the old show functioned, you'd know the rebirth of the series was given a far far bigger budget.

awww cant u tell u more about ... "I suppose ** *** ***, **** ***** ** *****."
