Freema talks 'Doctor Who' return

Published Saturday, Feb 7 2009, 12:04 GMT | By Neil Wilkes | 34 comments
What are the chances of Freema Agyeman making a return to Doctor Who before David Tennant bows out? Or even joining Matt Smith's Doctor in the TARDIS? Digital Spy's Lara Martin caught up with Freema at the launch of Law & Order: UK (more on that soon) to find out.

We're a bit behind the times here so I'm just checking for the new season. I can't believe the negative comments about Martha. She's the best of the three. Donna was a shrew and Rose was a wimp. Don't get me wrong...I liked all 3 but clearly the better actress is the one who made the most out of poor circumstances. Agyeman made the best companion because The Doctor could rely on her to take care of herself. Rose was needy and Donna was clueless.

Nooooo! No Martha please, bring back SJ and K9. And Ben how dare you criticise Sarah Jane (Elizabeth Sladen) she is the best DW companion EVER.

All Freema Agyeman has mainly been in is Doctor Who and Torchwood. WE DONT WANT HER BACK!She had a tiny part in Survivors and is now in Law and Order Uk but she should stay out of Doctor Who!

I'd love to see her come back for 1 or maybe a few eps with matt smith, i'd love to see how she'd get on with the doctor with a regeneration. also she has to come back for the finally, (infact i think everyone is anyway so... )Although not many people like martha she's one of my favourite characters hence season 3 of doctor who being my favourite series. which is suprising considering how good the other ones are. ^^

Oh, no. I really hope we've seen the last of Martha. I'd much rather Donna came back for the regeneration - it would feel more appropriate, since I think the Doctor had a far closer relationship with her than with Martha, and Catherine Tate is a far more talented actress, which is needed in what is bound to be an incredibly emotional episode.

I wasn't 100% fond of Rose after Series Two because she just sort of wandered about going "Oh my god!" at everything. Then Martha came and I really didn't like her. She was pure all squealy and every time she gasped it was annoying. Then Donna came back and she was really funny and just hilarious. Unfortunately she left and I'm now incredibly worried that Martha's coming back to squeal at aliens. She can hardly act.

Oh how quickly we all forget Catherine-gate. If you think there is a Matt Smith outcry you should have been on this site when Tate was cast!

My cat has more acting ability than Freema. Wooden is not the word.

I adored Martha (and I think Freema is a great actress) and I´d love to see her again in DW.

Bring her back for the regeneration! Someone has to look after the Doctor, and who better than Martha?
malkyj, Birmingham, on February 9th, 2009
Definitely. She was a wonderful companion and should have been given more than one series to demonstrate her full potential. I enjoyed her return to Dr Who and Torchwood last series but I felt her roles were underwritten and, in the case of Who, often reduced to wimpy screaming when she should have been an amazingly strong character after her experiences fighting against the Master. let's hope that if she does return she is given a role worthy of her character's talents.

Please! No! 'm sorry, but I loathed Martha with a fiery passion and still can't bring myself to watch the third season boxed set purely because of that character. Really, we've had enough of this ill-conceived, underwritten and poorly realised character. More Donna would be fantastic, though. Now THAT was a performance!
Lester, Southampton, on February 9th, 2009
I'd like Martha to hook up with Matt Smith's Doctor, as a one-off. It would be a cool piece of continuity to see how she copes with dealing with the whole regeneration thing. Let's see her as a super-strong professional UNIT person though, not a weak girly.
Emma, London, on February 8th, 2009
Martha has had her time, and then overan it. Time for new blood - new Doctor, new companions.
Aaron Dunckley, Daventry, on February 8th, 2009
I would really love Martha Jones to join Doctor who again, she is a great character and a great actress. Well done Freema Agyemen.
Daniel, Nottingham, on February 8th, 2009
i love freema in dr who....she got slated but i don't see why...she was good...end of!!!!
dobsy, Ulster, on February 8th, 2009
Nope, she's had her bit AND her numerous returns. If anyone is coming back it should be Catherine Tate as Donna, that's the only former companion that could be justified to come back.
