The Doctor's new (animated) look
Published Friday, Aug 21 2009, 16:01 BST | By Neil Wilkes | 4 comments
As David Tennant prepares to bow out of Doctor Who, he's undertaking a number of Special Projects to finish off his reign as The Doctor in style. The first is a guest role in the new series of The Sarah Jane Adventures, the second is a new six-part animated Who tale called Dreamland, and we've also been promised a third. Special Project Three is quite possibly a Doctor Who movie, or quite possibly not.
Anyway, production has just started on Dreamland, which will be shown as six episodes on the BBC website and BBC red button later this year, before airing as a single 45-minute episode on CBBC, BBC Two and BBC HD.
Here's the first picture of how The Doctor will look in Dreamland:

Dreamland also features Georgia Moffett, who you'll remember playing The Doctor's Daughter in series four. In this particular story she'll voice a different character: Cassie Rice, The Doc's new animated companion.
The story starts with The Doctor arriving at the infamous alien hot spot, Roswell. During a visit to a local diner he stumbles upon a mysterious alien artefact that leads him on a mission to rescue Rivesh Mantilax from the threat of alien race the Viperox.

I hope the plot isn't too childish, like The Infinite Quest was, although being on CBBC doesn't fill me with hope. Using animation could be a great chance to tell really extravagant stories that would be too difficult to film in live action. Animation shouldn't have to mean it's just kids' stuff.

This looks a million times better than the infinite quest!! now if only they managed to capture tennant's facial expressions in this one which imo is the biggest problem ('cause let's face it there were lots!) quest had. the voice acting was far superior than the animation in that. hope with cgi they've been able to finally match the two up. and the Tardis is looking less cartoony than Eleven's Tardis, go figure.
