The latest 'Doctor Who' filming pics

Published Monday, Oct 5 2009, 22:35 BST | By Neil Wilkes | 42 comments
It's been a month since we last saw Matt Smith and Karen Gillan (plus lovely bath robe) filming the new series of Doctor Who, so a catch-up is now well-needed.

And wow, it's exciting! The duo have now started filming episode one (through the magic of telly, episode four was actually the first they filmed and the series opener is actually fifth in the queue). So behold, what looks like a freshly-regenerated Doctor staggering around a bit battered and bruised...

Yes, this is David Tennant's outfit.

Need help Doctor? Why, here's a concerned looking policewoman!

You know what will sort you out? A lovely ice cream...

Oi! Doctor - you have to pay for that!

That skirt!!! Blimey it's short I know she's young but I think the costume designers should be realistic. I've never seen a policewoman with a skirt like that. On the other hand matt looks really good looking!!!

im 16 years old and have been watching Doctor who for the last 3 years,And Love It,I a a bit dissapointed how cheap and unrealistic the show is looking from the pictures,Like real Cops really wear Tiny mini Skirts,I think she is lovely and the prettiest Assistant yet,but come one, thats a bit Trashy,i just hope the New Doctor will be half as Good as David!!!

If she is meant to be a genuine Policewoman then her skirt is far far too short and her legs are too skinny to be shown off. Apart from that, looking at the state of what remains of the tenth Doctors costume it looks like he has a rough time just prior to his regeneration

I spent 20 years in the Met and NEVER saw a WPC dressed like that....mores the pity :)

Since the force became awesome. In any event, I think Matt Smith will be a decent Doctor, and hopefully Karen Gillan'll be a good sidekick to him. I wasn't born in time for the first run of the show, but I still understand the need for Doctor Who to change every once in a while, usually when you're getting attached to the Doctor in question.

Since when have police officers worn hot pants?

It seems mostly fans who have come to the series via the 2005 version are the ones most vehemently opposed to all the changes that are happening. This is a series that's spent its entire history jettisoning almost every aspect of itself every few years - it's a show that utterly thrives on change.

Splort!

This is to "Rachel" in Stoke-on-Trent: You're going to stop watching the show if you don't like Matt Smith in his first episode? Are you insane?! You need to watch at least three or four episodes before you pass any kind of judgement, because it takes an actor a while to "get into" a role properly. And how can "Matt Smith ruin the show"? Surely it's down to the people who cast him and the scripts etc? He'll be fantastic anyway so thankfully you don't need to worry, but you're not a true fan of the show if you're really going to judge Matt Smith based on one episode. Some people need to get a grip.

I am ridiculously excited by these photos, and much as I love DT I also think Matt Smith is a fantastic actor and since watching his exuberance in the January Confidential, I believe he'll make a great Doctor. Amy looks great too, but if she's wearing the police outfit for a hen party why is she wearing flat shoes?

wow people are so quick to judge. they haven't even seen the poor guy in action but are still slating him and crying over DT. Anyone think that maybe DT wants to do something else for a change. The joy of Dr. Who is the ability of the Dr. to regenerate and a new actor to give his take on the character. People really do take this stuff too seriously...still complaining over Ianto (he's not real) and threatening to boycott DW and TW because actors have left. Enough people will still watch so turn off if you want but I'm gonna give the poor guy a chance!

That last shot of the pretty girl - her get-up is surely a tribute to the Two Ronnies' irredeemable 'The Worm That Turned'. No?

I almost get the feeling that now that Moffat has taken control he is changing everything possible; New doctor, new inner AND OUTER tardis, new screwdriver, no more returning companions. To top it all, we lose the iconinc picture?! Stop it now before this goes too far! Oh wait, it already has, he's changing too much, way too soon! it's almost like he's trying to completely erase DT and CE's existences!
Jane, Middlesbrough, on October 6th, 2009
Put that girl in an A line skirt stat!

Blasphemy it might be, but I think Doc 11 looks better in DT's outfit than that weird 'Young Foegy/Librarian' thing. Even worse, the moment I see DT wearing that tie at Christmas, I know it's not long to go until Kiddii Doktor arrives :-(
Neil, Nottingham, on October 6th, 2009
Matt is wearing Davids costume which is all torn so looks like DT gets a tough death

The first pic of Karen Gillan in the police uniform is... interesting. lol

Im so disapointed with the new doctor who logo.. it just looks so bland and so child like.. producers are forgetting that this show is loved by an older audience also... it seems to me like theyre trying to make it to childlike,
