But did the change of pace in Steven Thompson's standalone serve as respite or a pointless distraction from the twists, turns and timey-wimey story arc we've been mulling over?
After the episode we polled you for your scores. With the results now in, once again the reaction has been a positive one, albeit much less so this week.
Only a fifth of you, 20%, deemed the episode 'Excellent', while a heftier 34.9% considered it 'Good', and 29.2% voted 'Okay'. On the negative side, 9.9% went for 'Not Good', and 6% branded it 'Awful'.
Overall therefore, that means Tube Talk readers gave 'The Curse of the Black Spot' a score of 7 out of 10.
Putting that result into perspective - not that we like doing so on this occasion - 'The Curse of the Black Spot' represents your least popular story on record (since the beginning of the last series).
We'll be back tomorrow evening for our next poll on the Neil Gaiman-penned 'The Doctor's Wife', where you'll be able to offer your views on guest star Suranne Jones as well as the latest plot developments.
