'Doctor Who': Digital Spy readers want Daleks, regeneration for 50th

By
Last week, Digital Spy gave its readers the opportunity to make their voices heard on Doctor Who's upcoming 50th birthday and we got an enormous response - now it's time to bring you the results!

Given that it's how the show marked 10 and 20 years on the television, it's perhaps unsurprising that the majority of Who fans seem to be backing the idea of a multi-Doctor story teaming current lead Matt Smith with David Tennant, Christopher Eccleston et al.

The Eleven Doctors was by far the most popular notion with you lot - but which nemesis from the show's past would be formidable enough to take on such a hendectet?

Again, it wasn't a huge surprise to see the Daleks emerge as the most popular enemy with DS readers, closely followed by the Doctor's eternal foe The Master - last played by John Simm in David Tennant's swan song 'The End of Time'.

The Cybermen and The Ice Warriors also had their vocal supporters - both races will, of course, feature in the eight Who episodes airing in the run-up to the anniversary from March 30.

And what of returning companions? A fair few were keen to get Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) and Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) back for another go-around, but *by far* the man most highly in demand was Captain Jack Harkness - plenty of you want John Barrowman's dashing Torchwood lead back for the 50th, and luckily Barrowman himself agrees with you!

There were also calls for River Song (Alex Kingston) and the Doctor's first ever companion, his granddaughter Susan (Carole Ann Ford) to feature in the 50th celebrations - a reader going by the name Flungie even demanded an Adric cameo, though we're pretty sure he was kidding...

In addition to all the old faces, a large percentage of DS readers would like to see a new face in November too - a number of you called for a regeneration, though not necessarily because you're tired of the Eleventh Doctor...

Ian Williams made it clear that while he thinks Matt Smith is "brilliant", the 50th anniversary seems like the "perfect time for a regeneration" - it would certainly end the golden anniversary with a bang, but are we really ready to say goodbye to the sensational Mr Smith yet?

So, if Digital Spy's Who addicts got their way, we'd be in for a seriously fan-tastic 50th special. Does eleven Doctors taking on the Daleks and the Master with the help of Captain Jack - in 3D! - sound like your idea of a good time?
