Matt comes across as very likeable in this interview. Obviously he's very excited to land the job, apart from that he seems very modest, thoughtful and a bit eccentric. He also appreciates the fact this is an iconic role he's taking on, not just some other acting job. His face when he says he's read 2 of the episodes is a picture, like he's done something naughty! I'm really looking forward to seeing who the new companion is now, and get a look at the costumes. Good luck Matt!

Simply amazing casting! He is just perfect for the role, weird eccentric and young all at the same time. These are all features that have made previous doctors successful, look at Peter Davison for example he was young and had a weird haircut and yet he provided a brilliant three seasons of Doctor Who, or the unknown Tom Baker possibly the best doctor ever. I hope that all who despise stop watching and leave the rest of us to watch the dawn of Doctor Who's golden age.

I've warmed to him very quickly. I do get a real Peter Davison-esque vibe from him. He seems to realise the weight of this role.. and that he can't just wing it, which is great. If I see Matt in the street, I'd quite like to shake his hand and welcome him aboard!

I think people haven't given him a chance - crikey, how do people know if he's any good if he hasn't done anything yet? Another thing, let's put this into persepctive: Matt is the same age as me and when I was growing up there was only one doctor I could bearly remember which was McCoy and then the brilliant Paul McGann in 1996 - 2005. He isn't as excited or into the role as much as David because it wasn't part of our culture when he and I were growing up, it just wasn't there. Give the guy a chance. I'll concede that he is a bit funny lookin', but to be fiar I think all docotrs were/are a bit odd looking in their own way and that has to be part od the doctors endearing charm. Don't worry, I'm sure he'll be good. Honestly, much more important things to worry about methinks. Personally I wanted McGann back, but that's just me !

i think everyones gone barking mad. david tennant is going and its time everyone got over it! i love him as much as any1 else in the role, but he cant do it forever. i dont see how everyone can judge this new guy when noone has actually seen him in the role yet. people should just look forward to the next series when russel t davies will finally be gone, he is turning the show in2 an absolute joke and i know thousands agree!

He seems to be excited about the role. I don't think he has the same enthusiasm for the show that David Tennant has but I'm going to wait and see what he's like as the Doctor. I'm constantly being proven wrong in my concerns about the show, David Tennant and Catherine Tate being two examples, both I was worried about, both blew me away with their performances. I say good luck to Matt Smith, and I hope he will become a Doctor to remember.

It will be weird without David doing it but this show is known for doctor and companion changes so the audience and devoted fans will need to get over it eventually. As long as the show continues to tell great stories and build great storylines, then i am staying as a devoted fan.
