Is it me, of are the BBC trying to create their version of Edward and Bella from Twilight? Such a young pairing will alienate many older viewers from the franchise.

Dunno what the character setup is yet so a bit difficult to say yet. More importantly - WHEN'S THE FIRST PR SHOT OF DOCTOR 11 IN HIS NEW COSTUME? If he's wearing wearing emo stuff, I shall be annoyed.

She is quite pretty. I reckon she will be a tom boy like Rose. I was hoping they choose the skins girl but it's good they chose a unknown actress like they did with freema.

I personally think this is a great idea. Two virtually new actors playing both Dr and Assistant, this really does the show potential and what makes the show. It is able to take virtual nobodies and star them in the BBC's biggest and best. Moffat knows what he is doing otherwise he wouldn't have created some of the best Who episodes and I especially look forward to some new chemistry between the two. Having them rather young adds a new irony to the doctor, perhaps aiming for younger audiences (although they've never had a problem there, I know a 3/4 year old who happily sits and watches). It should be interesting, looking forward to it.

Karen is actually older (or almost the same age) as all of the following actresses to have played the Doctor's companion: Maureen O'Brien, Debbie Watling, Wendy Padbury, Katy Manning, Sarah Sutton, Nicola Bryant... I've probably forgotten some of them, too.

She looks great next to the tardis, anyone worried about the young pairing should get over it, Steven Moffat knows what he's doing, the shows in the best possible hands.

Think she looks perfect for the role, and for her clothing it looks like we might have a more tomboyish companion which will make a nice change and help her stand out from Rose, Martha and Donna... ... on a side note... with the red hair... can't help but wonder if she is a younger Donna or Donna's daughter...?

Before this news came through I wasn't really anticipating Series 5 with an excitement - I'm delighted she has been chosen for her obvious acting ability rather than just being a box office-type name - I think she and Matt will work really well together, I really wish it was 2010 already!!!
Danny French, Essex on May 29th, 2009
I think she will be good but I was hopeing for someone different. Will she live up to all the hype of the new series in 2010? Time will tell

Brilliant! Great new assistant to go with a great new Doctor! I have a feeling she may be very similar to Rose.

I had doubts about Matt Smith, casting a 21 & a 26 year old looks odd They will both look like a couple of college students together Im not looking forward to the next series
Susan, Edinburgh on May 29th, 2009
Is it just me or are the new Doctor and companion really young? Are they trying to appeal to the younger audience?
Hannah, Brighton on May 29th, 2009
She's stunning :) I'm dying to see an interview with her now so i can see what she's like and everything...i think i'm finally getting excited about series 5 :)

On dwd's point. The executive producer Steven Moffat is from Scotland and the quotation provided says "but when Karen came through the door the game was up. Funny, and clever, and gorgeous, and sexy. Or Scottish which is the quick way of saying it."

Two red-headed companions back to back! As a red-headed female I can only say thank you!
Andrew, Cardiff on May 29th, 2009
really glad they've gone for an actress and not one of the personalities that were rumoured, same with matt smith aswell. i like the early signs of the moffat era
Oliver, UK on May 29th, 2009
She's a young and new actress, and they tend to be the better ones, like Billie Piper - she was new to acting - and this companion is hot as well, sure to bring in the older men!

Redhead------get in......... At least something will make watching Dr Who worthwhile. Because I don't think Matt will.....

Seaneeboy, Leeds on May 29th, 2009
Fantastic choice - an almost unknown with a bit of Who experience... No doubt there'll be lots of "urgh, it's a kids show now" naysayers, but it'll be good and energetic. The young actors have a good maturity about them :)
Sean, Dublin on May 29th, 2009
I don't think the lineup is too change, it will dramatically change the dynamic of the show which is what they needed to after after Tennant's spectacular preformances! I just keep reminding myself that I was so dissapointed when I heard Catherine Tate was going to be a companion and I was dead set against it and look how that turned out! Brilliant! I still love the show and can't wait to see how the new series turns out! :)
