I would love to see more of the 8th Doctor on TV. Either a number of 90 min specials (maybe 2-3) a year, like what they have been doing this year with 10th Doctor, or at least as a one of 5-6 episode mini-series. I like most people had a lot of issues with the 1996 movie, but I though McGann was brilliant and would happily watch more of his Doctor. I think that the idea of having Specials would work well if they were on at times of year when the main series was not, to give the fans something to watch in the many many months between the traditional episode 13 and the Christmas Special (like 6 months usually). What else is great is that Paul McGann had an older looking face when he was a young man, so 13-14 years, he has not really aged, so he could still have the younthful exuberance that he showed in the 1996 movie.

Personally, I think they should have a mini series, like the Torchwood: Children of Earth to tell the Time Wars story, which by now we basically know what happened. The eighth Doctor needs his moment of glory.

And what about having him in flashbacks of the war during a war related storyline with Matt Smith? That could end with an epic tv movie... I don't really care the excuse. Paul is a great Doctor and has earned the part with his fantastic audio plays. I really want to see him piloting the TARDIS again, because he is my second favourite Doctor of them all no matter who is the first one at any particular time, and that probably makes him my real favourite Doctor anyway...

Would love to see Paul back, but, as he says, only if the script is right. If 8 Doc is going to make a return, let the Moff write it, and come back in style....

I would love to see McGann back as The Doctor as I'm a huge fan of him in the Big Finish audio plays and the 1996 film. Paul made an awesome Doctor, and I really liked the film, his hair and coat, the music, and the tardis interior. It all felt very Doctor Whoish. So there was no new series in 1996, lets get beyond that and give Paul his chance now. If RTD could do Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Sara Jane then Steve could do two Doctor Whos. Whether it is a movie or 13 episode straight to DVD box set, from what I have seen most fans want to see more of the Eighth doctor.

So many of us were excited by any hint of Paul returning to the role of Doctor Who. I have enjoyed the Big Finish productions but now it's time to give him the series denied. Paul will be at Chicago Tardis 2009 in November.

ABSOLUTELY, he's one of the best actors to have had the part. Tennant is my number one, this guy is number two. Ofcourse he should be given a proper go on television made by the BBC. It's as if he's a "bastard doctor" until he has been to Cardiff, I almost think... Anyone only needs to listen to one of the BBC7 audios to know how wonderful he would be on the screen again... I really would love to see him again, and I'm not a hardcore fan or anything -just a casual enjoyer of the best show on TV. Fingers crossed for 2013!!!

I heard the rumors and got exited... was hoping for some clearer explanations of the inconsistencies in the 8th Doctors time line and possibly an explanation for the first ninth Doctor as seen on the BBC web cast. How many time wars are there for heaven's sake? Is this three now? Gallefrey was destroyed once already. McGann looks great and as stated earlier, has some fire in his eyes about his role as the Doctor. I would, like most Whovians, LOVE to see his return... and YES do it BIG, EPIC... it would sell with the right script. We'll see how Matt does. Maybe there will be closure. Maybe McGann's adventures are open ended for a reason. We shall see.

I think they should do a big screen trilogy of the Time War, starring Paul McGann. It should be EPIC! LOTR epic!! At some point he would regenerate in to Chris Eccleston. It could be an awesome way to bridge old with new and give our poor, underused #8 some visual time. I've been listening to the Big Finish 8th Doctor adventures. It would be great to SEE his Doctor again!

It's a shame. Watching that video, there's still some fire there... It would've been great to have seen that attitude go up against his 'replacements'. Maybe some of that (occasionally not-so friendly) rivalry Troughton had with Pertwee. :) Reading between the lines, how McGann says he hasn't been watching Tennant, I presume he must have caught some of Eccleston's performance at least, out of curiousity maybe? I don't think the "dustbin man" remark is disparaging at all... Paul clearly saw Dalek in Series 1 and Christopher's angry tirade at the "great dustbins of the galaxy", worked backwards from that to how it might apply to his Doctor and the kind of acting chops required of him if the BBC Wales batphone ever rang... which sadly it didn't. :( They should have brought his Doctor back well before now, if only to plug that gap between the Classic and Nu series... even the most embittered fan would have no leg to stand on having seen the 8-9 regeneration happen.

I don't think it was ever implied that the Paul McGann Doctor was the Doctor in the Time War? He could have regenerated into someone else prior to the series being revived? I think it was left unanswered, so that if needs be, another actor could be "the Time War" Doctor, who regenerates into Chris Eccleston.
Ian, Merstham on October 7th, 2009
I love the fact that he feels that Doctor Who is fundamentally a 'hair job' - there's doubtless some truth there... even Bill Hartnell wore a wig!
RobFilth, London on October 7th, 2009
I don't want to see McGann reprise the role just for a rubbish regeneration or Time-War story which would sell fans short, I would rather him back for a full proper series like he should have had back in 2005. Hilarious to hear Paul call Eccleston "a bin-man". "So your my replacements, a dandy, a clown and a binman!"
Esther, Stoke Newington on October 7th, 2009
Yeah, and I think all the other McGann brothers should put in an appearance as wel
Elisabeth, California on October 7th, 2009
I would love to see the return of Paul McGann to Doctor Who. The Time War, a new series. There are other Who spin offs. Let's get the Eighth Doctor into the canon at last.
Adam, Spalding on October 6th, 2009
I think a new Doctor Who movie based on the time war should be produced. The time war happened sometime between the 1996 paul mcgann movie ad the new series in 2005 with eccleston. This movie could feature Paul McGann in the time war and regenerate into Chris either mid-way or near the end. That would be 'fantastic'
John, Craigavon on October 6th, 2009
I feel that a movie or extended episode dedicated to what happened to the 8th Doctor before regenerating into the 9th would be fascinating.Sure, the TV movie wasn't great but I thiink that Paul McGanns doctor could have been potentially the most interesting and more deeply layored of all the doctors if he had been given to opportunity to explore the charactor deeper in a series. shame really
kate canada on October 6th, 2009
maybe if the rumors are right about the time lords coming back they could be going to do flashbacks to the time war and we will see mcGann as the doctor that way
RTF, New York on October 6th, 2009
Paul has been sort-of back for years, doing the Dr Who audio plays which have been mostly brilliant. I always wished they'd at least dress him up again as his Doctor and take some photos; every Eighth Doctor novel and CD release for 12 years have had to illustrate their covers with the same four or five publicity shots of McGann they happened to snap back then.
Nelle, London on October 6th, 2009
I would love to see McGann back as The Doctor as I'm a massive fan of him in the Big Finish audio plays and the 1996 film (even if the film itself wasn't fantastic). I'm really hoping they don't do the regeneration into Eccleston though as presumably the 8th Doctor died during the Time War, something which I think should never be attempted on screen as it will destroy the mystery surrounding it. I reckon a multi-Doctor episode/ charity special or flashbacks is going to be our best chance of seeing the 8th Doctor back.
Nick, US on October 6th, 2009
Bring back McGann! Still holding out hope for a movie about the "Time War", with McGann, Eccleston and Tennant.
Andy, Sussex on October 6th, 2009
I'm not sure RTD has anymore association with Dr Who. Or am I wrong?
Dot, UK on October 6th, 2009
I think he'll have to come back eventually because of the Time War in which he died and regenerated to Doc 9. (I think that's right I may be wrong, sorry!) I'd love to see Paul return, that 1996 movie wasn't very much for the Doctor, he needs to establish himself a bit more!
Matt, San Francisco on October 6th, 2009
Would I like to see Paul return to Doctor Who? Is this some sort of joke? ALL OF US would like it! I enjoyed the 96 movie. I know there are many fans who hated the movie and even many of THEM thought Paul had tremendous promise as the Doctor. Bring back Paul!!!
Brendan, Surrey on October 6th, 2009
Spielberg's production was an embarrassing fiasco. I pray he's not let near it again.
Alex - Essex on October 6th, 2009
I think to see the regeneration of the 8th Doctor into the 9th Doctor would be good to see , but I think we have passed that point now as we we are onto the 11th Doctor next year , but I think people are wanting RTD to do a movie maybe , as the last one with the 8th Doctor (Paul McGann) was in 1996 and we are over-due for another one now.
