More 'Survivor', 'Race' headed for DVD

CBS is planning more complete season DVD releases of its top reality shows, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The network has already put out seasons eight, one and two of Survivor but - in a move that could anger many of the show's hardcore fans - is planning to skip ahead to season seven (Pearl Islands) for its next release, slated for early 2006.
"It's because of the significantly higher ratings, the way the game played out and the likability of (contestant) Rupert and some of the other castaways," explained Ken Ross, vp of CBS Consumer Products. "Ratings are a critical factor in deciding what to release, but so is the size and the intensity of the fan base."
For the same reason, season seven of The Amazing Race will follow the release of the first season this autumn.
"We're leading off with the first season because that's the one that started it all, and not that many viewers had come aboard and watched that first race," added Ross. "We're straddling the current season, with Season 1 coming out when the new season launches and then, toward the finale of Season 8, coming out (on DVD) with Season 7."
