Survivor 2 will be scheduled in a late night slot from March 13, Digital Spy can confirm.

Mark Nicholas will take over as presenter from ITN's Mark Austin, who fronted the reality series first time round.

Twelve contestants will participate, and will be split into two tribes and marooned on an island off the coast of Panama. Failure to win the Immunity Challenges, which occur every two days, result in a trip to Tribal Council where they must vote off a member of their tribe.

In the latter stages of the game, the two tribes will merge, following which, as each member is voted off, they take their place on the jury. When there are only two survivors left, the jury decide who should win the £1,000,000 prize.

"The extreme weather conditions we are experiencing are extraordinary for the time of year," said Executive Producer Ed Forsdick. "Battling with the hunger, lack of sleep and tough challenges is a test of determination and strength of character. Watching ordinary people cope with extreme situations is what makes it compelling."

Survivor 2: Panama will air each Wednesday at 9.45pm on ITV1. Additional programming includes an interview with the evictee, which will also air on ITV1. Survivor Raw, presented by Ed Hall and last year's winner Charlotte Hobrough will feature extra footage and interviews and air on ITV2.
