ITV pleased with Survivor ratings

ITV has said it is pleased with last night's edition of Survivor: Panama.

The episode, which went out over an hour from 9pm, averaged 5m viewers and a 23% audience share; the highest of the series so far. Whilst below ITV1's regular primetime share, the programme convincingly won its slot, with only BBC One's Shops, Robbers and Videotape coming close with an average of 3.6m (16.6%).

The move was designed to test the programme's power in an earlier peaktime slot, following a progressive ratings increase at its regular time of 9.45 over the past few weeks.

"Naturally we are pleased with the ratings," an ITV spoeksman told Digital Spy. Whether the 9pm scheduling will become a more permanent fixture remains to be seen; however it will remain in the 9.45pm slot for at least the next two weeks to accomodate live UEFA Cup coverage.
