How do you think Matty has developed or changed over the series?
"It's hard to say with Matty. Possibly he appears more accepting of other people, because he now understands there's got to be a bit of give and take in a relationship. He ran away, he's come back, he's living at home - he understands that for him to get what he wants, he needs to give a little bit. If he wants to understand all these people, he's got to give them a bit, so they can take and he can say, 'Okay, that's what you're like'. I think next series is going to be the crucial one for him. I think this series has been very much about the girls and I think that was important. I think Matty's been a mysterious enigma that has been built up and up and up and he's not yet going to pop. The mirror won't be turned on him until the next series. I don't think in terms of his personality he's changed particularly. I think he's realised that - even if he doesn't want to change it or isn't prepared to change it - he's realised that he has separation issues. His heart and his head aren't connected up. He's able to do some incredibly malicious things and he's able to do some incredibly loving things, but actually not follow through with both, so people aren't really sure where he is."
What do you think will happen next series?
"I'm not sure. I think basically the idea is that with this series it was gradually leading up to forming a group and to finding a real bond between everyone. I don't know, I couldn't say exactly because we haven't sat down and talked about it all, but I think we'll go into the next series and it will begin to be much more about the world throwing things at the group, as opposed to the group getting into internal turmoil, as they have been in throughout this series. I think the next series will present a lot more Skins characters versus the world, as opposed to Skins characters getting on each other's nerves."
"God, what a question! There's nothing I could come up with that the Skins scriptwriters couldn't. I think there are a million things I'd love to happen to Matty but unfortunately not in the space of ten episodes! I want to see Matty tested. I want to see him really, really pushed to his limits. He's kind of playing at the moment - he's in the shallow end. He's a deep sea fish but he's in the shallow end, he's having fun. He's nibbling at people's feet. I want to see someone give him a big kick down to the deep end and I want to see how he copes with it. Doubtless he's had some very, very hard times in his life... He will have seen some pretty horrible things. But I want to see that on the show. I want to see how Matty deals with that."
What's the fans' response to Matty been like?
"You know what? I haven't actually looked. I couldn't answer that question because I've tried quite hard [not to look]. It's not that I don't take an interest in what people think, but I try to disassociate myself from the forums and things. I have heard about people looking and I have looked myself and some things can really shock you. But no, I don't know how fans have reacted to Matty at all!"
What's been your highlight from working on Skins?
"I think to have worked with the seven other people who were in it with me. Simply that!"
You've got another series of Skins, but would you like to pursue acting after that?
"Absolutely, yeah. Yeah, absolutely. That's really what I want to do. I can't honestly think of anything else. It's a pity, because I rather wanted to be Poirot and I've heard that they pulled that series from ITV. Have you heard that?"
Yes - I heard you were a fan of Poirot!
"[Someone from Skins] told me the other day! He said, 'God, they've pulled Poirot' and I said, 'What? What?' But we've still got Marple. Unfortunately I can't play Miss Marple, I doubt, in the future, unless something drastic happens! But yes, I'd like to be an actor. That's what I'd love to do."
