Confirmed: 'Love Island' axed by ITV

"I just don't think the public appetite was strong enough for us to bring it back for a third year," admitted ITV's director of television Simon Shaps. The show often slipped below the two million viewer mark and received paltry audience shares, largely due to being scheduled opposite Channel 4's ratings collusus Big Brother.
However, Shaps hailed the show's production team and stated his belief that Love Island - won by Calum Best and Bianca Gascoigne this year - was "brilliantly made". He made his comments during the channel's launch for their winter schedule in London today.
