Kim's no Elton in 'Pop Idol'

Kim Gee became the latest contestant to be thrown off the Pop Idol bandwagon last night.

In the Elton John themed show, most of the finalists impressed the judges; particularly Mark, who came back from a few weak performances to put in a strong rendition of 'Something About The Way You Look Tonight'.

Bookies favourite Susanne failed to shine, however, struggling with 'I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues', whilst Chris received mainly negative comments from the panel for his version of 'Circle Of Life'. Kim had a strong vocal but chose a relatively unknown song called 'The One'.

When the result came in, Chris and Susanne were surprised to learn that they had escaped the bottom three, instead it fell on Kim, Roxanne and Michelle. Roxanne seemed to take the news particularly badly, crying as she awaited her fate.

First to be saved was Michelle, with Roxanne following moments later, meaning that Kim became the fifth finalist to be eliminated from the competition. Speaking afterwards, she said she was "gutted" to have to leave the group but was looking forward to seeing her three children again.

Next week the top seven will perform disco hits.
