Michelle wins Pop Idol 2003

Michelle McManus has been crowned the winner of Pop Idol 2003 this evening after more than 10 million votes.

In the climax to a special three-hour live final, Mark was pipped to the post by Michelle despite some good comments for both from the four judges.

"This is unbelievable," she said shortly after the result was announced. "Thanks to everyone that voted for me and to all those that said I couldn't do it, I've done it."

Michelle had been the bookies' favourite over the course of the last week, albeit marginally, as Mark had surprised them time on time by remaining in the competition.

Michelle's first single, 'All This Time', will be released on January 5.
