Foxy: Axe 'Pop Idol' if Cowell quits
Published Monday, Feb 2 2004, 22:53 GMT | By Neil Wilkes
Pop Idol judge Neil Fox has called for the show to be axed if Simon Cowell quits.
The reality series recently concluded its second run on ITV, and, although still a massive ratings success, was generally regarded as lacklustre compared to the first run.
In the US, on the other hand, American Idol has retained its spark and, more importantly, head judge Simon Cowell until the fifth series in 2006.
Recent rumours have indicated that Cowell is planning to ditch Pop Idol to concentrate solely on the US version, although he has yet to confirm officially whether he'll be back for Pop Idol 3 in 2005.
Speaking to The Mirror, Foxy said that if Cowell decided not to return, the whole show might as well be given the chop.
"We can only really do it with the same team," he reasoned. "Part of me thinks it would be great to end it on a high. It would become this thing where people said, 'Do you remember Pop Idol? That show was unbelievable'."
