“ Pop Idol ”
Change of image for Gareth Gates

Pop Idol runner-up Gareth Gates is to front a band as part of a "last-ditch attempt" to save his pop career, the Daily Star claims today.
The singer will be shedding his "cheesy image" and rebranding himself as the UK's answer to Adam Levine, lead singer of pop/rock group Maroon 5.
"A lot of Gareth's fans have moved on to Busted and McFly because they seem cooler as they play instruments," a source at Gareth's record label BMG told the newspaper.
"The main thing everyone is keen on is getting him to front a live band, Instead of performing on TV shows miming, the idea is that he'll have his touring musicians on stage and ditch the one-man Westlife image he had after Pop Idol. They want his music to take on a Maroon 5 sound."
As reported last month, the 20-year-old has been given "one last chance" at success, with the axe an almost certainty if he flops.
