Reggie's luck runs out

By
Thursday

Four contenders, three places in the final and only two people who can sing.

The performances under the microscope.

Kim Medcalf – You Keep Me Hanging On

It was never going to be possible to top last night so I expected disappointment was inevitable.

It was impassionate rendition and lacking in the power we witnessed on Wednesday.

Dek Rating 7/10

Reggie Yates – Would I Lie to You?

You could see he was trying but really, I won’t lie to you, it never came close to being an enjoyable experience.

Dreadful.

Dek Rating 4/10

Spatwatch: You could almost feel the love between Paddy and Parky but it kicked off between David Grant and Come Dancing Craig. Terribly bitchy, darlings.

Adrian Edmondson – Should I Stay or Should I Go

The punk tunes suit this glorious nutter down to the ground and we had another exceptional piece of freeform performance.

Dek Rating 8/10

Edith Bowman – Yesterday Once More

A terrible start from the Bowman and she still hadn’t recovered by the chorus. After some superb efforts this husky and at times poorly tuned version was a bit of a surprise.

Dek Rating 6/10

Adrian and Kim – You’re The One That I Want

A bit of a disaster this, vocally abysmal and mistimed from a comedy perspective.

It really really didn’t work.

Reggie and Edith – It Takes Two

Edith was nearly back on form with this initially and Reggie was very passable at the beginning, which was a bit of shock.

There were wobbles in the middle and by the end it was just woeful.

The news that the phone vote has raised over a million was really welcome. If you’ve been voting, give yourself a pat on the back, if not there’s still time to have an impact. Vote for your favourite and help transform someone’s life

Edith - Shout

I gave Edith 4 out of 10 the first time she did this. This time I was even less enamoured.

The tiredness was showing through now and this was a real struggle.

Dek Rating 5/10

Reggie Yates – Can’t Touch This

It’s Reggie Time.

He looked like he was having a ball and fair play to him for that.

Dek Rating 8/10

Kim Medcalf – Don’t Know Why

Sublime.

Again.

Nothing more to say.

Dek Rating 10/10

Adrian Edmondson – Born To Be Wild

Everything that’s good about this performer is on display in this number

Dek Rating 9/10

The Verdict
All the students were back to vote tonight in this the last standalone show.

The public saved Kim, which must put her in pole position to take the crown. I was really hoping that judges would save Edith, but this was no foregone conclusion after they left Debra hanging on the previous night. It was close but Parky and common sense prevailed.

So it was vote off between Adrian and Reggie.

Here’s how they voted:

Al Murray – Adrian
Jenny Éclair – Adrian
Konnie Huq – Adrian
Jon Culshaw – Adrian
Chris Colquhoun – Reggie
Gina Yashere – Reggie
Nick Knowles – Reggie
Dawn Steele – Adrian
Debra Stephenson – Adrian
Kim Medcalf – Adrian
Edith Bowman – Reggie

Kim is the best singer in the thing but with more comedy fans tuning to Friday’s event, Adrian is still in with a squeak and with her army of Radio One fans you can’t write off Edith either.

It’s gonna be great and if you’re loving it, please do what you can to help the cause.

I’ll be fundraising on Red Nose Night faithful readers but you can see my views on the eventual winner from Saturday morning.
