'Fame Academy' boot for Jo Brand
Published Sunday, Mar 9 2003, 20:01 GMT | By Neil Wilkes
Jo Brand has become the third celebrity voted off the BBC's Fame Academy in aid of Comic Relief.
Jo faced potential eviction with fellow contestants Will Mellor, Ruby Wax and John Thompson. The public vote saved two.
Programme host Patrick Kielty announced the result that Ruby was safe, then Will, leaving just Jo and John.
The responsibility of who would have be evicted then fell upon the other students, who had to cast a vote for who they wanted to keep in the academy.
Ulrika went first, voting for John because "he gave a fantastic performance and has a lot more to give." Doon chose John too, "judging on tonight's singing alone."
Next up was Kwame, who also picked John: "Again, only on tonight but it breaks my heart."
Ruby voted for fellow comedian Jo, whom she described as "the most talented and I love her so much." Will was last on, choosing John "although I'm probably going to regret it later."
At the end of the programme, headteacher Richard Park revealed the names of the students on probation and singing for survival tomorrow night -- John, Ulrika and Kwame.
Celebrity Fame Academy airs Monday at 19.00 on BBC One.
