'Comic Relief Does Fame Academy': The stars

By
Life today, eh? So many celeb-based reality TV shows, so few memorable stars. We've decided to give you an introduction to the 13 contestants singing on Comic Relief Does Fame Academy to save you from squinting at a box to work out whether it's Bobby Davro or Maureen from Driving School assaulting your ear-drums when the show starts tomorrow.

In alphabetical order, we present:

Angellica Bell

Who? She’s a former CBBC presenter who recently helmed EastEnders Extra on BBC One.

What are her chances? Bookmakers Ladbrokes have her at 16/1. She’s certainly very smiley and, having run the London marathon a few years ago, not exactly lacking in determination.

Mel Giedroyc

Who? She’s a comedienne, actor and TV presenter. The one from Mel and Sue who’s not a lesbian. She co-starred in Ben Elton’s ill-fated sitcom Blessed, co-presented Richard Hammond’s ill-fated teatime show on ITV and appeared on Channel 4’s ill-fated breakfast show RI:SE.

What are her chances? She’s at 12/1 with Ladbrokes. She's unlikely to win, but she'll probably milk her ineptitude for laughs to secure a respectable finish.

Miranda Hart

Who?A comedienne, actor and writer who plays Teal on the BBC’s sci-fi sitcom Hyperdrive. She’s also appeared on Smack The Pony, Absolutely Fabulous and Nighty Night.

What are her chances? 16/1. She’s a dark horse, insomuch as nobody really knows who she is. Except for Arabella 'Does My Bum Look Big In This' Weir, who calls her the “funniest girl over 5 ft 11 I have ever worked with”. Nice.

Fred MacAulay

Who? A Scottish radio presenter who’s becoming a panel show fixture thanks to appearances on They Think It’s All Over, Have I Got News For You and Bring Me The Head Of Light Entertainment.

What are his chances? At 14/1 he’s a bit of an outsider.

Colin Murray

Who? A Radio One DJ who also presents Channel Five’s UEFA Cup coverage.

What are his chances? Ladbrokes have him at 6/1. His Radio One chum Edith Bowman won the last Comic Relief Does Fame Academy, so he’s got a lot to live up to.

Tara Palmer-Tomkinson

Who? A former 'It' girl who's become an unlikely national treasure thanks to her memorable appearance on Frank Skinner's chat show in 1999. She's such a toff that she even bagged an invite to Charles and Camilla's wedding, you know.

What are her chances? She’s at 16/1 but the constant threat of a train wreck surrounding her could make TPT the show's highlight.

Tricia Penrose

Who? She’s played Gina Ward on Heartbeat for as long as your Gran can remember.

What are her chances? She’s third favourite at 7/1. Plenty of singing experience – she even reached the final of the BBC's Eurovision trial A Song For Europe in 2002.

Rowland Rivron

Who? The presenter of the BBC’s Holiday show. Nobody seems to know where he came from, but, strangely, no one can remember a world in which he didn't exist.

What are his chances? 12/1. Rowland has a surprising amount of musical experience and even co-wrote the London’s Burning theme tune. Respect.

Linda Robson

Who? The one from Birds Of A Feather who’s not Pauline Quirke or Dorian. Since then she’s kept herself in the limelight by appearing on numerous reality shows that nobody's ever heard of – I’m Famous And Frightened!, Celebrities Under Pressure, Celebrity Blind Man’s Bluff - and mouthing off with The Vagina Monologues.

What are her chances? 12/1. She’s a good egg but we’d rather see Dorian do 'Like A Virgin' again.

Zoe Salmon

Who? A former Miss Northern Island who’s currently presenting Blue Peter. She’s also appeared as a WAG on Hotel Babylon.

What are her chances? 12/1. She brings a bit of glamour to proceedings and these kids TV presenters are up for anything nowadays, aren't they?

Ray Stubbs

Who? A BBC sports anchor who currently presents football results fest Final Score.

What are his chances? He’s a 12/1 outsider but your dad will sympathise with his plight.

Tim Vine

Who? A comedian who’s recently appeared on The Sketch Show. He’s also the brother of Jeremy Vine, you know.

What are his chances? Ladbrokes have him at 12/1. Like Mel Giedroyc, he'll probably use zaniness as a weapon.

Shaun Williamson

Who? He was Barry in EastEnders and then Barry From EastEnders in Extras.

What are his chances? The 2/1 favourite. Sending himself up on Extras has endeared him to the British public and he’s got singing experience: he once appeared as Meat Loaf on Stars In Their Eyes. Expect him to swivel his hips to ‘Mustang Sally’ at some point.
