Uh... who exactly wanted the finale to be all Doctor-Rose? That would have made it twice as worse and fanwanky.
Ken, Durham on July 6th, 2008
The finale was so sad, just because of what happened to Donna. I like the pace, everything happening back to back non-stop. I really like how it turned out, I didn't like the Rose Mortal Doctor bit but oh well. I'm just saddened by the Donna bit, because after all that she went through after her great evolution she was returned back to the basic dismissive Donna from before. To me it feels worse than death.
Ravvie on July 6th, 2008
I liked it, but it was ever so slightly disappointing. I'm really getting sick of metaphorical deaths- when you say someone is going to die, either kill them off or don't say anything at all. Sheesh!
Floss, Bucks on July 6th, 2008
I really didn't like this epsiode. It got such a lot of hype and it didn't live up to it. 1 - Too much slapdash action and explosions and manic screaming of 'The END OF THE UNIVERSE! WHHHHAAAAAAAAA!' 2 - The Dalek Caan plotline needed more building. It's like, 'Aha, a manic.' Then the whole betrayal thing, and before you know it, they've left him to die. Over. 3 - Sarah Jane and Luke should have had more screen time together, and the Doctor should have met Luke at some point. 4 - Nothing is more annoying than the character of Rose Tyler, the Queen of Self Centered B***es. The end of life and the universe, and she's sitting there going, ''What about meeeeee? He loves meeeeeeeeeee! Why won't he tell me he loves meee?''

i thought this epsiode of the final of doctor who was brillant can't wait for the christmas epsiode and a new sereis to start can't believe that doctor who has finsished already. i thought donna died three times when she was thrown across room before she arrived home in tardis and in the tardis locked can't get out and in fire but alivie i thought the doctor was going to regnerate but did not and also i thought capitan jack died too when he got exerminated but he was also alive. i could not understand the part where there was two doctors and then donna takes the doctor's mind. i thought someone was going to die in doctor who out of captian jack donna martha rose or the timelord himself but none of them did unless counting that they come back alive.
Marge, Philippines on July 6th, 2008
everything tied up neatly in a bow. jack got 2 replacements for the ones he lost, sarah jane said good bye to the doctor, we see the end of the daleks, yet again, rose got her doctor, a mortal one. even her character had to live with that fact even if she tried to catch up with the two-hearted one which sorta left her wanting and for her so was i. too, neat. but i guess all things considered, there is no pleasing everybody, so kudos to RTD!!!

Wow. Yet, not so much. What a waste of Rose's return. Dumped on a beach(again!) with consolation prize Doctor2. After all the Doctor and Rose shared the Doctor seemed like he could not wait to hop into the Tardis and leg it! Disappointing, such a build up from Doomsday for Rose's return, yet they blew it. It sucked. Been better if they had killed her off wi a big sacrifice and farewell with the doctor(and not on a smeggin beach!) As for Donna, she was brillant. The doctor/donna interaction was really good. Bad ending though, really felt it was unpleasant to rob her of memories. A chance Donna could return i wonder? Also Too. much. cast., torchwood-who cares!(sorry,)why bother bringing in sarah jane so what/ torchwood and martha-it was overkill. Would have played better with smaller cast, more emotion, and better treatment of Rose! A few great moments, but overall im disappointed. I will be watching at christmas however, still a huge doctor who fan. David Tennant remains excellent. Although catherine tate was brilliant as doctor donna - watch your back??!!
Andy, England on July 6th, 2008
Since when did a final episode in the series become a 'finale'? That's a bit grand, isn't it? A bit OTT? Mind you, the whole thing has become OTT since Tennat climbed aboard, with a constant rush of explosions, wierdness, running around and Tennant's incessant mugging.
Twm, Wales on July 6th, 2008
I really didn't think the ending suited the build-up of the series to its finale. Why kill off the whole of Donna's character? It was heart-wretching to see her plead not to go back to her life as a nobody. It really put me off Dr Who but i suppose they will fill the gap by putting a new companion (or old) that everyone will most probably love. =)
Harlie, Canada on July 6th, 2008
I felt a bit slighted with this finale. There were far too many cast members involved. The whole season focused on the return of Rose and the fate of Donna. RTD should have stuck with that and left all of those other companions out of it. There was no need for as many returning companions. I did like the whole addition of Torchwood though. Ianto, Gwen and Captain Jack are always welcome. Martha, Mickey and Jackie were totally unnecessary IMO.
Jamie, Cornwall on July 6th, 2008
It was a good episode but I didnt think it rated to 'The Stolen Earth', because it didnt have that 'on-the-edge-of-your-seat' feeling to it like the previous episode did. I did like seeing everyone back together, that was a rare television treat and it was brilliant, but where was the big cliffhanger ending? No brides, no Titanic, no nothing, just David Tennant's pretty face. I felt a little bit cheated then!
Sarah, Canada on July 6th, 2008
Loved it. I think there was too much Rose though, I mean, she's had her time just leave her story alone. I would have liked to have seen Torchwood used a bit more effectively really, however it looks like it's setting up for Mickey and Martha to join Torchwood which I think would be brilliant! Jack's one-liners where a nice touch to break up the tense episode! "....I can't tell you what I'm thinking right now..." XD Also, I vote Wilf for next companion, because I adore his character ever so much. I loved the crazy Dalek Caan, he stole the scenes! Also, thanks for pointing out the German speaking Daleks, I adored them XD Eve Myles' double-acting was the only one that was never addressed, so I thinnk it's good they slipped it in there :p Could have done with a bit more Ianto, but at any rate it was brilliant and omg David Morissey in the preview for christmas!!

I always feel a bit churlish for moaning about Doctor Who. It's great. I loved this season. Loved Donna. Loved their relationship and the penultimate episode really made the Daleks seem soooo scary. Then this episode comes along and it was...okay. I think after the best cliffhanger ever what we got was bound to be a bit disappointing and even with the extra running time it was rushed and a bit dare I say, formulaic. It would be nice to see something a little bit different take place... why not let the daleks win and have the Doctor and his pals escape and then the specials or the next season continues this with them popping up now and again to try and beat the Daleks. It's just that we build them up as so terrifying which is great and then, yet again the threat is overcome with the flick of a switch. A bit of a cop out. I'm sorry. And wouldn't it have been brilliant if the DOctor had rescued Dalek Caan. How about an insane Dalek as the next Who companion? Now that really would be something. Now, having had my moan I still want to say well done to RTD. He created some fantastic moments of telly. He really did and most important of all, he brought the Doctor back.

What a pig's breakfast of a finale - based on the first part, I'd assembled the family to sit down and watch what I'd hoped would be a classic episode. Instead there was so much going on that you couldn't react to any of it except with derision over all the convenient convergences, I know we're supposed to stretch credibility, but the Earth being towed across the universe - how cheesy is Mr Davis' imagination! Pathetic. John Barrowman criminally underused, very little in the way of humour and way too much romantic tosh and pathos plunging into bathos. Welcome Steven Moffat - maybe we will get something worth watching next time. The only plus is that we've got rid of Catherine Tate, but could we keep Bernard Cribbins please - maybe he could be the next companion.
Daisy on July 6th, 2008
You have summed it all for me brilliantly! I felt that there was no real focus on anyone in particular. It was just RTD way of closure. The problem is, too much was left untold.
Jamie, Edinburgh on July 6th, 2008
Well done to Catherine Tate. At first I thought her to be an awful choice to follow the Doctor around the Universe but as the series ended I will truely miss her wit. An original character in the Who series!!

sorry but i am confused, anyone else notice that mickey could stay in our world but when rose asked to the doctor said she couldn't well that don't seem rite to me how one can and one can't stay i think leaving donna with no memory was terrible she should have decided to stay at home with her grandad and mum in wake of the attack and be allowed to return if she wanted sometime in the future or at least have the memories.

I will be back, the Daleks are the supreme beings
Paul, London on July 6th, 2008
Natalie said, "[W]e were promised that someone would die... and they didn't." It depends how you interpret "one will die". Davros might be dead, and Doctor number 2 will die, has is part human. So either way, you could say that the prophecy "one will die" was fulfilled.
Scott Donny on July 6th, 2008
I cant belive how amazing the finale was. i was speechless. however it is a shame dat donna couldn't remember anything in the end (tear) i think she would av made a great doctor donna for future episodes i think she shud av stayed with the doctor as his amazing ever lasting ever knowing companion

Too much going on is a very fair comment on Journey's End. For me it wasn't that Rose's return was overshadowed (I'd agree that it was but this didn't feel like the right episode for it in the first place) so much as other things. The two most important things going on ought to have been the culmination of Donna's arc and the return of Davros. Rose wasn't needed and neither were the Torchwood team, Sarah Jane in contrast was underused given her links with Davros.
Gareth, Manchester on July 6th, 2008
I thought that the 'Stolen Earth' episode was superb and set up so many cliff-hangers. I deliberately avoided any 'spoilers' for the finale, in anticipation of the last episode..... And what a disappointment! We were hit with cop-put after cop-out. No new Doctor and evry single one of the associated characters making unlikely escapes from 'certain death' at the end of the previous episode. Is it because it is supposedly a 'family show' that RTD avoided killing off any popular characters ( other than the relatively minor Harriet Jones )? There were some positives: the return of Davros was superb. Lots of clever references for those of us who have followed the series all the way through. Also, the show is (hopefully) now finally rid of the awful and hideously over-rated Billie Piper. Even at the end, the ominous 'one shall die' prophecy was resolved with yet another cop-out, simply by erasing Donna's memory. I had really looked forward to the finale of what I thought had been an excellent series. The only thing worse than a disappointing ending, is a disappointing ending about which such high hopes were held. I never thought I'd say this, but maybe it is a good thing RTD is moving on for a new man at the helm.

Donna will be back. That ring was given far too many close ups. Was it not a ring like that taken by a female hand from the Master at the close of series 3?
Sarah, UK on July 6th, 2008
"Rose-Doctor interaction is what we wanted" Umm i don't think so! I'd have rather had Rose not be there at all. Martha, Jack and Sarah Jane are a million times better than her. Even Mickey and Jackie are better. Rose was plain boring in this episode and Billie Piper wasn't at her best. A very flat performance from her whilst everyone else around her sparkled. I did enjoy it, apart from the two Doctors. That was ridiculous and it was only in there to keep the Rose/Doctor shippers happy. As soon as i saw the second Doctor i just knew he would be going to live with Rose. I never believed the Doctor was in love with Rose, and i still don't. The best scene of the episode was all the companions manning the Tardis to take Earth back. Catherine Tate has been brilliant the whole way through this series and i am very sad to see her leave. I thought it was a bad exit for Donna. She will be missed!

The Doctor Who finale was amazing! I cried my eyes out at the end- It was so moving but you're right Neil, there should have been more of Rose Tyler and Doctor interaction.
Steven, Glasgow on July 6th, 2008
Well!!! Wow what a finale indeed! A great way for RTD to bow out , however i do have some negative points to make about the episode, which is basically the whole rose/doctor scenrio. I really wasnt a fan of Rose's ending this time round, it just felt like they were making do giving her a substitute doctor, as she cant have the real doctor. Hopefully she wont be back because her return was slightly dissapointing. Catherine Tate was amazing in the episode, she really was the star of the show, it was heartbreaking when her memory was wiped and when she blanked the doctor at the end saying "ok cya" it was chilling. The doctor being alone in the tardis at the end was sad as well, as was Donna's grandad's final scene- very moving. Although it looks like Donna wont be coming back, what was with her ring? It flashed and was given a close up, could it mean something, or is it just to tease the viewers?
Katie, London on July 6th, 2008
Simply the worst episode of Who ever created. Rushed, incoherent and upsettingly bad. Written by a 14 year old fangirl high on sugar. All the worst possible things happened. Sickeningly awful. Absolutely dire. Doctor Who was never about Romance, yet know that's all that matters. And why bring in Jack if he does nothing? TERRIBLE> And now Martha dn Mickey to Torchwood? RTD should be punished for this appalling nonsence.

Oh my! Where to begin? First let me say that, as a fan, I thought that there was much to enjoy about "Journey's End", but, despite the proliferation of past characters, the return of Davros and some astonishingly visual set pieces, the whole thing left me feeling largely unsatisfied. "Journey's End" played out a little like Russell T Davies's Greatest Hits with even sibling shows "The Sarah Jane Adventures" and "Torchwood" being crow barred in to remind us of the huge legacy that the new series has created since its return in 2005. Notable by its omission was any flashback or direct reference to Christopher Eccleston's wonderfully prickly re-invention of the character which surely had a large part to play in the new series early success. My main problem with the episode though, was that when I attempt to wade through the photo album reminiscence that constituted the larger part of the episode in an attempt to look for a cohesive plot line, there just isn't much of any to found: Daleks steal planets to form a machine that wipes out the whole of reality itself. Now while this might be the logical conclusion to the Daleks' raison d'etre, it makes for a rather improbable end scenario for Davros. What, after all, is the point of being master of everything if there is nothing left to be master of? That isn't to say that the episode didn't contain anything of merit, it did. The woefully underused Bernard Cribbins still managed to shine in every scene that he was in and, it's a huge credit to Catherine Tate that, in amongst the football crowd that was the returning cast, she still managed to shine above the rest as Donna. Donna's farewell, however, really didn't do the character justice at all and, I can't help thinking that perhaps it would have been a more fitting and heroic an end to the character if Davies had killed her off. On the villains' team we had Julian Bleach’s laudable interpretation of Davros which, while being faithful to Michael Wisher’s original portrayal, also introduced a level of subtlety and studied menace to the role. And finally there was Rose. Billie Piper's return to the Whoniverse seemed to me simply to tie up the loose end of the Doctor/Rose love affair that, for me, had been more than adequately resolved at the close of series 2. To make it work Davies had to employ a Deux ex Machina that was almost, though not quite, as contrived as last season’s which not only enabled Rose to live happily ever after with and provide the means for the Doctor/Donna to save the Universe. Don’t get me wrong, I know that Davies is a good writer; his work outside of Doctor Who plus this season’s surprise delight “Midnight” stands up as testimony to this fact, but here the mechanics just didn’t hang together. I began by saying that there was much to be enjoyed about this episode, but I suspect that they are the same things that are ultimately the reason why “Journey’s End” did not work for me as a piece of Drama.

More Rose...thats what was needed. Anyone else think there should be a Doctor2/Rose spin off. I can dream right
Natalie, London on July 6th, 2008
The storytelling was pretty good, Davros was brilliant, but i couldn't help but get irritated a LOT. I really wanted some sort of adressing between Jack and Rose, i mean Jack and Mickey had a hug! Doctor and Rose didn't have enough interaction together and that ending felt REALLY unsatisfying, and as much as i'd like to be happy with the whole, they can grow old and die together, it just didn't feel RIGHT. The Doctor is now going to be travelling through space and time, wondering what's happening, if Clone!Doctor and Rose are happy and living the life he could have, that is even more heartbreak. Then the Donna thing (props To Catherine Tate, amazing acting from her) Leaving the Doctor completely alone. That had a plothole however if a Time Lord/Human metacrisis or however it's spelt can't exist, what about the other doctor then? is he going to break down like Donna was? And since when did wiping peoples memories change someone's biology? And if Mickey can go back to the normal earth, why does Rose have to go back to the Parallel? Just feel a bit let down, after all that hype of Rose's return and all that, and the result feels a bit anti-climatic.

I loved it all! Apart from: The horribly over the top "Go West" music used to pull the earth back. Martha - She is so awful! can she act???

This was fantastic episode I laughed cried and felt the genuine emotions of all the cast. Best bit was Jack when we realised there were 3 doctors FILTH! loved it and I was apprehensive about Catherine but she was marvellous I will miss her very much. Lets hope Freema has some acting lessons though before she joins Torchwood (I think she was the weak link but she can only improve..... apart from that BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!! and I am SO please David is staying, my money is on Dr's daughter to be next assistant or Alex Kingston, you never know. I would personally like Wilf he has been brilliant Roll on christmas!

there were many great points to this epsiode yes but they were too many faults with it! Just as bad as Fear Her. So long RTD thanks for nothing!

What a disappointment leaving Donna with no memory of how "special" she was. Whats that all about? CT was fantastic in this series and to lift her character up out of suburbia and show her how important she was only to take all that away AND her memories of it was just cruel - to the character and to the audience. We know shes not reprising her role (don't we?) so there is no chance of her "somehow remembering" in the future. It wouldn't have stung so much if Donna had actually died, knowing what she knew and being who she was supposed to be. Cruel Cruel cruel!!
David Gregory, Birmingham on July 6th, 2008
It was just epic. Packed with all sorts of continuity nods, but if you missed them it didn't matter as you were swept along in the pace of the story. Wonderful stuff And deep down inside part of me hopes that one day, Donna will get back a little of what she lost somehow.
Nate, IOM on July 6th, 2008
i loved it but i really don't like Donna's ending - and it felt a little rushed tbh.
Mike, Bristol on July 6th, 2008
Please Please try to persuade Catherine Tate to reprise Donna in the not too distant future. I loved Rose but the Donna Doctor duo has been for me the very very best television on offer for a long time (and of course it also means you can bring back Granddad).
B, Scotland on July 6th, 2008
How can you find ten things good about the finale and fail to include the fact that donna was outstanding, again! Best part of the episode, was basically just Donna in General. CT has been the best thing in the series this year and she further cemented that in the finale, which was better than any previous finale. Well done Catherine
