Overall, this was a very poor series of Doctor Who. The blame lies with the scripts and Catherine Tate. Even something like the epic-scale 'The Stolen Earth' was poorly executed with the lazy scripts and comical Tate. Doctor Who needs a reboot. I'm glad that Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) has been written out of the series. For what it's worth, I thought 'Forest of the Dead' two-parter was the highlight.

The whole series was lacklustre. The writing was dodgy, and running around shouting a lot has taken place of acting. The only reason that the programme is getting such high numbers is that (a) it appeals to six year olds and (b) it continues to be the darling of the Radio Times. The writers clearly haven't taken any note of developments in science fiction since the 1940s (how many more times is Earth going to be invaded?); plot lines are full of holes; casting continued to be done on the basis of who was next in RTD's address book; and the finale was so bad as to be laughable.

Sadly another r Who series over, Saturday night returns to it's everso boring regular programmes. I disagree with G from Glasgows comments

I'm amazed at some of the user comments suggesting The Fires of Pompeii could even be close to the top. Easily the worst this series, the first fifteen minutes were nothing more than Ancient Roman EastEnders! David Tennant's superb acting was let down by poor and hammy performances from everyone else- even Catherine Tate had an off-week in that episode (though I should stress she's been fantastic this series). The only high point of that terribly-paced borefest was the water pistol! Forest of the Dead was in no way the best of this series. I love Moffat's episodes, but it doesn't come close to last year's Blink. I personally feel The Unicorn and the Wasp deserves a place on the list for being one of the funniest things I've seen in months.

5: Turn Left-Rose is back! and Catherine Tate is a very fine actress
4: Partners in Crime-Very funny,lame enemy yes
3: The Unicorn and the wasp-Quite possible best single episode of new Doctor Who!
2: Silence in the library-River Song please return! (that Jenny from Dr's Daughter can stay 'presumed dead')
1: Journey's End-epic! and for once this season finale is actually really good while always larger than life! Davros! Rose! Exterminiren!! and of course Jackie Tyler!! Fantastic

Have to agree with Paul in Birmingham, Midnight does not deserve its place in the top five. Either RTD ran out of writing time, or more probably, spent all his budget bringing 3 series' worth of cast together for the final episode, that it sadly stood alone as a weak episode.

I would have to say that this whole series was amazing... but if I was going to make a top five it would have to be-
5. The Unicorn and the Wasp
4. The Fires of Pompeii
3. The Poison Sky
2. Midnight
1. Stolen Earth/Journey's End
But then I look at that list and think there were so many other really good episodes!!!

Good Choices apart from midnight, this must be far the worse and most boring episode RTD has brought us. All my family and friends hated it, we all thought RTD ran out of writing time and made it up in ten minutes

Agreed with others, the Moffat episodes really weren't all that, it just seems fashionable for the media to sing their praises. Fires of Pompei should definitely be in the list, as should Journey's End, without a doubt (in fact I'd choose it over Stolen Earth, if pressed).

This series was great but my top 5 are slightly different.
5. The Unicorn And The Wasp
4.The Sontaran Stratagem
3.Journeys End
2.The Fires Of Pompeii
1.The Stolen Earth
I believe the worst episode was silence in the library as it was too confusing in places but still a great series and roll on December for the return of the Cybermen

What about Fires of Pompeii?? I rate that higher than Planet of the Ood.
Westy, Midlands on July 8th, 2008
I partly agree with that
5. The Unicorn and the wasp
4. The Doctor's Daughter
3. The stolen earth
2. Forest of the dead
1. Midnight
What? on July 8th, 2008
Forest of the Dead? What? If it had to be any part of that Moffat disaster it should have been the first! Where's The Fires of Pompeii? Top 5: Pompeii, Stolen Earth, Ood, Turn left and the EPIC Journey's End.
Brian Whitworth, Manchester on July 8th, 2008
So, Journey's End didn't even make the top 5. That speaks volumes!

Im a huge Steven Moffat fan but why will no one admit that his episodes this year were rubbish? People are saying that they are amazing cos thats what they think is expected. Truth of the matter is they were the low point of the season. Rambling, confused, plotless etc.
