Pics: Freema Agyeman filming new role
Published Monday, Jul 21 2008, 19:40 BST | By Neil Wilkes | 19 comments
Here's the first glimpse of Freema Agyeman filming her new role in the remake of classic drama series Survivors.

The show - currently being filmed in Manchester - has been re-developed for the present day by Primeval guru Adrian Hodges. Like the original '70s series, the new version will follow the aftermath of a devastating virus that wipes out most of the world's population.
Freema plays Jenny Collins, a "bright and lively" primary school teacher who has tough decisions to make when caring for her dying flatmate Patricia. In the original show, the character took to the road to escape the chaos in the city - and judging by the teaser shots above, it looks as if Freema's Jenny is facing a similarly epic journey.
Survivors airs on BBC One in late Autumn.

I've actually seen the first episode of the new Survivors series and it's really good. I've written a longer piece about it on the Culture Show blog (don't know if I'm allowed to link here), but I thought that Freema was good as Jenny. I was more impressed, however, with performances by Nikki Amuka-Bird (another Torchwood alumnus) and Max Beesley.

Loving Freema and loved the old Survivors--so are the ITV Law and Order rumors just rumors? She can't help that the usually savvy Doctor Who people didn't know what to do with her....

Freema is gorgeous, talented and very down to earth! I wish her all th eluck in the world, though she doesn't seem to need any at the minute, proof that the girls got talent!

Great to see Freema getting lots of work! Series 3 of Doctor Who and Series 2 of Torchwood benefited much from her presence. Seems like this talented actress has a very promising future! :)

I'm really looking forward to watching this, sounds like an interesting idea, and being too young for the original series lots of people will i'm sure enjoy it as well. I also agree with Sigmund Freud (wow never thought i'd ever type that on DS!) - Freema was superb in DW, far better than Piper's chav companion, series 3 was brilliant and her appearing in Torchwood was also brilliant. 2 acting faces, my ar**! Let's hope that she leaves UNIT and heads to Cardiff very soon.

Yayeeeee! I love Freema. I have my fingers crossed that the Torchwood rumours are true. She is gaining experience and she can only improve. I'll be supporting her.

yay I'm very excited about this one! As for these amateur critics, they obviously didn't watch the third series of DW.

I love Freema! And while she is new and gaining experience as an actress, she nonetheless infuses so much charm and energy in what she does. To me, RTD deliberately inhibited her role as Martha, so he could wax poetic about a previous and returning companion. The fact that she struggled through this and gained many fans along the way, shows what potential Freema has a growing talent.

I agree with Katie, London. Freema seems to have a surprised/terrified/scared face and a 'trying to seem tough' face and neither of them make me think she is a good actress. One of my favourite quotes of hers whilst in Doctor Who: "it's made of wood"...it sure is love!

YAY, I love Freema! Never for a minute in season three of DW or season two of TW, did I think Freema was a bad actor? She is great :D

Somebody has obviously never heard of the saying "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" Looking forward to Survivors, and i also hope the Freema Torchwood rumours are true!

How does she keep getting cast in ANYTHING? The woman cannot act, and it's so depressing. She has 2 faces and voices whilst 'acting', neither of them convincing in the slightest. It makes a joke of other struggling actors trying their hardest to get even a role as a supporting actor. As for being in Torchwood? Great, ruin one of the only things I look forward to watching. It's a COMPLETE JOKE!

Loving Freema! Really glad she's bagged another high-profile role and hope the rumours about Torchwood are true. Viva versatility!
