Have you heard about ITV2's crazy new reality show CelebAir? Eleven of the nation's finest celebs - everyone from Chico to Lisa Scott-Lee and Michelle Marsh - will undertake the mammoth task of running their own airline, 'CelebAir'. They'll be handling almost every aspect of the process, checking in passengers, providing in-flight services and dealing with any awkward customers (but thankfully not flying the plane). Each week the worst celebrity trolley dolly will be eliminated / ejected from the plane / tossed onto the runway (pick your own favourite metaphor here).

Earlier this week Tube Talk's special reporter Simon Reynolds went along for CelebAir's maiden voyage. Read on for the results...

7.30am: Frazzled and barely awake, I reach Gatwick Airport at 7.30am to be greeted by comic Amy Lamé (who, during a later interview, threatens to use the passenger restraining kit on me). Amy hands over a pass to the departure lounge and I head to check-in, where ex-Blazin' Squad member Kenzie is lightening-quick with sorting out travel documents. Asked how the day has been so far, he replies: "Everyone's been as good as gold."

8am: Steps star Lisa Scott-Lee and her husband Johnny Shentall have the departure lounge manned, serving drinks and food with swift precision and a smile on their faces. The lounge is like some kind of celeb zoo - in one corner sits Lee Latchford-Evans and two members of Goldie Lookin' Chain, in the other Andi Peters and Bianca Gascoigne.

8.45am: I'm shown to my seat by Phil Cornwell of Stella Street fame and So Solid Crew's Lisa Maffia. Glamour model Michelle Marsh seems to be in her element delivering the safety demonstration. CelebAir's Monarch-charted flight takes off at 9.30am. Phil's Michael-Caine-as-air-steward impersonation makes up for the rubbery omelette.

12.40pm (GMT+1): A smooth landing in Alicante is followed by a bus ride - where Chico's daughter finds a microphone and starts to sing, a lot - to the Asia Garden hotel. A whirlwind lunch and several interviews later and it's time to head back.

5.30pm: I filter through the packed Alicante airport, setting off the metal detector despite removing every piece of metal on me, then make my way to the departure lounge for the return flight.

6.50pm: The call for boarding is announced and Chico and soul singer Mica Paris greet passengers and show them to their seats. "It's all about the people," says Chico, who appears to have a frictious relationship with Mica as they debate over which side of the plane they are serving food to (the chicken out-rubbered the eggs, by the way!).

7.50pm: Chico has quickly established himself as the most popular crew member with the passengers, with one elderly woman frantically taking photographs of him. Shouts of "what time is it?" to Chico are met with replies of "seatbelt", "dinner", "tea/coffee" and "landing" time. Remarkably, Chico didn't seem annoyed.

8.20pm (GMT): After being warned of ominous-sounding "decaying thunder pockets" by the captain, we pass through a bit of turbulence without too much fuss. A round of applause from the passengers for the celeb crew after the landing and it's time to head home.

CelebAir begins Tuesday, September 2 at 9pm on ITV2.
