Big Brother + zombies = 'Dead Set'

Published Thursday, Sep 11 2008, 10:49 BST | By Neil Wilkes | 37 comments
Coming to E4 next month is Dead Set, an original five-part drama from Charlie Brooker.

The series, starring Jaime "Phoo Action" Winstone, is set in a fictional Big Brother house at a time when the country has been overrun with zombies. The contestants are apparently "blissfully unaware" of what is happening in the outside world - until eviction time, that is.

Now that zombies can run they are sooo scary! I watched the last episode ths morning online and the affects are crazily real and quite disturbing. Would've liked a happier ending but although I'm now to scared to leave the house I thought it was great. Can't believe how well Davina did too, that scream when she was being killed by the zombie was harrowing!!

i think its one the funniest things I've seen in a long time, well acted, brilliant cameo's and overall, very good.

I reckon it looks really good actually, Charlie Brooker usually has good things with his name on, so I'm gonna give this series a watch when it starts. Plus, it has zombies in it, and zombies make anything good.

Well I for one think this looks brilliant. I think they've roped in some of the actual ex-big brother contestants, let us all pray that makosi and kinga get eaten. While i was meant to be doing something at work I had a look at the Dead Set pages on the E4 website and it all looks rather good. As far as i'm concerned something that combines the absurdity of big brother and the zombie based genius of 28 days later is absolutely fine by me. Can't wait.

This looks BRILLIANT! I've seen SOOO many trailers for this, has anyone seen the one where they say "Hey, is that Davina?" and then a zombie Davina comes charging at them, seriously describing some things makes it sound cheesy but I DON'T LIKE cheesy stuff and this looks AMAZING! CANNOT WAIT!!!!!!!

"Oh dear. Although I like Brooker, this looks to be awful. Very studenty. And not another zombie bore-fest pleeeease, the genre is so cliched now." A cliched genre you say? Please do tell me how the hell a genre, which by DEFINITION is a grouping of media of some sort or another which all bear a similar main trait, can be cliched? For that matter, if you could please draw a line in the sand as to what classes as a cliche or not, I would be very grateful. The trailer doesnt do anything special, it doesnt provoke emotion, it doesnt inspire me personally, but it does make me want to watch the show when it comes out. And that, fellow internet, is what I would like to define as a good trailer.

I'm sorry? Badly directed? you can tell that from 42 seconds of a trailer? In the same way that I can't tell from THAT MUCH wether it will be good, I also can't tell wether it will be bad. But I'm a big fan of Charlie Brooker and since he rants about the poor state of programming so well, I have hope that this show will be good... But we shall see...!

I must say, many people here are very quick to judge - "Looks quite rubbish to be honest. Even after the "trailer" I still don't have a clue what the actual premise of the show is. A-Level students could have put together a better trailer - and by the looks of it show aswell." That's quite an unfair, scathing review of this series, given only 42 seconds you've seen of it. Patience, I'm confident that this series will be cracking. And by the way, A-level students couldn't and don't put together better trailers than this; sounds like you credit your A-level media class with more ability than they deserve...

Why is everyone so negative... Charlie Brooker has stated this isn't a comedy and that he was always a big fan of horror. I certainly dont think it is bad thing that he has decided to do something different. I also think it is extremely difficult to judge a directors method on 42 second long trailer and the marketing is clearly productive as the website only came online today and you lot are already talking about it.

you ppl dnt know what your talkng bout this show looks awesome. and what do you mean it looks cheap, its a tv show on a freeview digital channel what do you want, some sort of hollywood blockbuster production values?
Jimmy, Lanark, on September 14th, 2008
Since this is written by Charlie Brooker I will give it the benefit of the doubt. Not sure about the way it is getting marketed though, you'd think there would be some humour in it. Still, isn't this the first Zombie tv show?
Jason, St Annes, on September 13th, 2008
Craig - people don't just say Code 9 is bad - it is ! I think the irony factor on this one has gone over a few people's heads...
Stan, Dublin, on September 13th, 2008
When I read the blurb, it sounded funny in a satire "Shaun of the Dead" kind of way, but that trailer looks like it takes itself too seriously and is badly directed. I hope its misleading.
