What's on MTV this Autumn?

Published Sunday, Oct 5 2008, 13:05 BST | By Neil Wilkes | 2 comments
Last week MTV threw a party at London's swanky Home House to show off its Autumn assets (note for all press launch organisers: never try to cram 200 people into a moderately-sized reception room, however grand it may be). So, what's in the MTV lineup?

"Lots of reality TV," is the answer. Which is a good thing, if (like me) you're partial to that sort of fluff.

Autumn officially kicks off for MTV tonight with the brand new season of The Hills. The UK counterpart, Living On The Edge, returns for a second series next Sunday with an almost entirely new cast (more on that to come this week).

Kerry Katona and her saggy breasts will appear in a one-off special, Kerry Katona: Whole Again, following the former popstar's journey through cosmetic surgery. Trust me, it really is "warts and all" viewing.

Peaches Geldof appears in her own series, Peaches: Disappear Here, charting her somewhat curious attempt to launch a new magazine. Pimp My Ride returns for a one off special, Pimp My Riot Truck, which, despite the name, is actually one of those "doing good for the community" endeavours.

There is some music in the lineup, too. This year the UK - or more specifically, capital of all things cultural, Liverpool - is host to the Europe Music Awards. The channel will also air Oasis's Wembley Arena gig live on October 16.

I've never gotten over MTV Base removing music from primetime. Now you can only watch the latest hip hop music videos at odd hours if at all. It's outrageous that MTV Base does not provide a proper hip hop music service - the stars hate it also. I wish more would complain about the lack of music.

OK, nothing new, basically. It's unbelievable they're relying so much on all those trash shows. Why don't they just start a daily live show with music guests, videos, performances and all the rest? In my views, at least one live show may help bring the channel - or what's left of it - back to life.
