E4 does right by 'Smallville'
Published Friday, Oct 17 2008, 19:13 BST | By Neil Wilkes | 43 comments

I've just heard that Smallville, a show that's been at the mercy of the channel scheduler's whims for many years now, will be returning in less than a month's time.
The eighth season of the drama will air on the channel Tuesdays at 9pm from November 11, putting us on a delay of around seven weeks from the original US transmission. Fans of the 'Ville had been faced with a wait of nine months for new episodes.
E4 is also fast-tracking the new season of Desperate Housewives, which starts this Sunday at 10pm (and next Wednesday on Channel 4).
So then, anyone else think that E4 deserves a bit of love now?

I see Smallville seasons in time with e4 chanel in Scotland, 3 or 4 episodes behind e4 but thats okay, but cant get a simple question answered,"when does season 9 begin" in Glasgow,Scotland., as my family are real fans of Smallville, so will we be told when season 9 appears on our screen in Scotland, saluti xx

Any chance of One Tree Hill coming back a bit sooner too? Season 6 was starting in the States as we finished Season 5.

This is progress - great news for fans of Smallville... It seems that the gap between the US and UK is shrinking all the time, I fully expect that the gap will continue to shrink but they can't just show US shows - some shows will need to be delayed to allow homegrown productions to be shown. Keep up the good work!

@ Cam. There are many different groups who upload episodes, 2HD and freetv to name a few, they can edit out things, suppose it's the way they do it. Most of my rips are 2HD and they have no swear words whatsoever.

It's good news, even though I still haven't watched season seven yet! I just couldn't be bothereed when it was airing.

Wow - cool! Well done E4 - lookin' forward to seeing more of the 'Ville people. Now, if only they'd get the producers to use more of the terribly underutilised Lois character!

What about one tree hill? I'll admit they did better with season 5 than previous, as they did advertise it but they advertised smallville a lot more and it had almost finished in the US when they started airing it here. Why can't they do the same for one tree hill? In the UK last season, One Tree Hill was doing better than Smalliville.

@ Paul - Well it's strange that I have the US broadcast episodes and they have the word b*tch and other 'choice' language that is missing in the UK screened ones. E4 cut episodes to shreds or simply not show them - remember the basement episode in OTH?

@ Cam, the word b*tch was cut out from the original US version. @ Alex, Last season Smallville did pull good numbers but in the 2nd half of the season One Tree Hill thrashed it in both the demos and viewers. Even this season One Tree Hill continues to thrash it in the demos, even the male demos. Smallville & Supernatural don't fit in to CW's (Smallvilles US channel) target demographics. PS One Tree Hills ratings have been rising each week, most recently 3.6 million- the bet the show has had in 2 years. One Tree Hill is coming back for season 7 but Chad Michael Murray may not be staying for it.

As the saying goes "to little, to late". I have been downloading since S7 and E4 have done nothing to make me start watching it on their channel. I can get HD (720p) quality torrents with no adverts and no cuts so why would I want to support E4 in any way. For all those that are excited about this just remember that E4 slash episodes to censor them. One Tree Hill has the word "b*tch" cut even when it is shown after 21:00.

so after seven years they NOW realise they should treat smallville fans "right" when this could be the final season! Pathetic, they should have listened before. I do think 7 weeks delay is on purpose so that they wont have to stop the show when it goes on hiatus in US!

Let me tell you why they aren't showing One Tree Hill, In America it roughly gets 3 Million viewers, where Smallville gets over 4 Million viewers, This seasons lowest has been 3.95 Million. and One Tree Hill's lowest viewers is 3.22 Million. Also, Smallville has a really big fan base in America and United Kingdom, and, Smallville is growing with Viewers. It's almost beating it season Premiere. E4 knows what will get viewers. I feel like One Tree Hill would probably only get around 0.4 Million, Where Smallville could probably crack 2.5 Million to 3.9 Million.

It's about time E4 stepped up to the mark, but I would love for them to give more love to One Tree Hill instead of making us wait until it's nearly finnished in the USA before showing it to us. They stepped up with promoting OTH this year but there's still room for more.

About bl00dy time. They have done really well with some shows. DH being a prime example, but we have all be messed around with Smallville so this is fantastic news. Shame it's 7 weeks delay. Other channels are getting in on the 7 days or less. But, not gonna complain too much, might get pooped on if I do!

NO not really seing as smallville season 9 has juast finished in the US and we still dont know when its going to be on here. This is very poor from E4 as in the past its usually been six weeks after it first shows in the states not when the complete season is finished and certainly not when you can probably by the whole season before it even gets aired here very dissapointed when is it going to be on a date please
