Meet Robin Hood's new 'men'!
Published Friday, Feb 27 2009, 16:09 GMT | By Neil Wilkes | 12 comments
Well, that should be "man and woman", really.

Robin Hood finally returns for its third series in short order and with Marian, Will and Djaq all history, there are some new openings in Robin's gang.
When we rejoin the action, it's been three months since Marian died - and Robin is a seriously depressed man.
Then along comes Friar Tuck to save him, reinvigorate him and help him remember why he does what he does.
Tuck is going to be a major player in this series of Hood and in many ways he'll be a match for the outgoing Robin.
Meanwhile Locksley villager Kate gets caught up with the gang in episode two after she objects to her brother's forced conscription. Before too long she's a fully paid-up merry man - and she'll be setting many a heart aflutter...

Robin Hood is like so many BBC progs. They are so busy being PC and making sure they have the right quotas of various minority groups they forget about a good script and story.

Oh dear John & Terry you are taking this way too seriously. In simple words lads it's Entertainment for Early Sat. Night! It's no dafter than Dr. Who or Predators, it's just that in this incarnation of the story, the baddies are much better actors than Robin Hood and his lot. If you want serious adherance to history go and watch Discovery or The History Channel and leave the rest of us to have a bit of fun on a Saturday. Roll on series 3!

I agree, why is this nonsense still being thrown our money by the BBC? It's badly written, badly acted and based on a overused character. Absolute nonsense. Compare this BBC effort with Universal's reboot of Battlestar Galactica, written by Ron Moore. Now that's a genius writer, with a cast and director to match, a true drama/action adventure....and that, ladies and gentlemen, is why it wins Emmys and the BBC has to hope for the best via cheeky comedies and heavy facial expressions as seen in Doctor Who and Robin Hood. It's embarassing. We used to make the best TV and now.....

Harriet's got it head on, love it. The last season finale was fantastically done. I'm glad they're doing what they're doing, nd I for one havve "faith" in Friar Tuck, and all the decisions on the way. Just stop moaning, sit back and enjoy, like normal people do.

Jon- cool it! You haven't even seen series 3 so how the hell can you tell if it's a historical version of Skins or not?? The show is still on the air because it's GOOD. At least a lot of people think so, hence why there's a third series. It's no big shocker that Tuck is black- it may be different but so are a lot of things on this show and being different can be a good thing sometimes. We're going to see Friar Tuck in a different perspective and I think that's interesting. If you don't like the show just don't watch it. Plus Robin Hood isn't mythological or a character he's a legend and he was probably real. (well I believe he was anyway, each to his own)

Oh dear god why is this show still on the air? It has taken a mythological character that has entertained millions over the years and turned it into a stupid "historical" version of Skins! Hoodies! A black Tuck! The Merry Men as a Gang! This show is so wrong on so many levels, Let's just hope it get's cancelled for good.

Umm forgive me - and please no platitudes about "entertainment"; Robin Hood is an important part of my (and other English folk's) legends/history - so why is there an African chap being cast as Friar Tuck - I say "African" because that is what he would have been - yet, I'm not sure sub-Saharan Africans would have set foot in Europe at that time let alone Sherwood Forest. North Africans might have traded with Europe but the chances of a non-Moor African getting to the whole of England at that time must have been as remote as impossible. Please don't mess with our stories - show some empathy and sensitivity- or is the BBC trying to stir up trouble? of course if you're a liar and a falsifier of history (and I wouldn't mind a "true" version of Robin Hood!) then go ahead...
