I cant believe there will be no series4 i love this show sooooo much and am gutted they have brought back primeval and not Robin Hood.I really wanted to see Clive Standen in the Robin Role i think he would have been amazing...they did not finish the story...they should have at least had a spin off show with the remaining outlaws with Archer the Action Man hero and Tuck the Man with a Plan.i am so so upset i was so wrong to cancel the show it was the best action adventure series on TV

I am gutted its gone.the best fun on sat night has ended and the BBC will not replace it with another family drama.i think the cast that remains would have made a 4th series even better..especially if Toby Stevens became the resident baddie.they could have easily made Archer the new Robin Hood and finally we would have 2 leads worthy opponents..please BBC bring this show back!!!!!
James galvin on September 29th, 2009
I think it was stupid to axe the show they had Clive Standen set to take over as the new robin hood and Archer was ten times the hero the previous Robin Was and made a huge impact in the last 3 episodes and would have made the show 10 times better.using Archer as the New Robin would have enabled the BBC to wipe the slate clean and create a refreshed show with a great new look..i cant believe they axe it just as it had found its true Robin Hood!!! all they needed was to have will scarlet back from the holy land and all the main gang are still there from the original legend (Allan a dale was only a bit part player in the real legend anyway) and a new robin enables a new Marian!! either way you look at it it was wrong to axe the show..great family drama

What a way to ruin a great show, i bet they replace it with something rubbish! Bit bored of shows like X-factor etc hood was a great change, bring it back! :D

I am aghast at what the BBC did to the final episode of Robin Hood. I can't believe the BBC had the audacity to show such blatant contempt for the actors and all who worked on the show for 3 series and for the viewers who stuck with it. By shifting the finale to a different time slot on a whim, the viewing figures were severely affected thereby the BBC literally killed Robin Hood. In Northern Ireland, it was shown at 9 o'clock on BBC2 on that Saturday night - how random is that? I only found out by waiting for my digibox channel information to update and by refusing to leave the TV until I found when it was on. Can you imagine the furore if the BBC did this to the finale of Doctor Who? They better never do it to Merlin or I'll be round there!

I don't see how else it could have carried on. Watching Marion get killed off was devastating and it just felt wrong to see Robin getting up close and personal with anyone else. What a shame, but Jonas Armstrong was perfect and so without Marion and Keith Allen it's not been the addictive viewing of the first two series. Sad, though.

Killing Marian was the first blow towards this show's death. I think it wasn't so much the losing of Jonas Armstrong (and killing off the title character) that sealed the deal so much as it was killing off Guy of Gisborne, played by the skilled actor Richard Armitage. Still, with the most appealing characters gone from the show, there was no way the fourth season could have been successful, as it relied on those particular characters.

I feel that they made the mistake of killing off his love interest in the first series and that lost fans.

good, more of Robin Hood
Stephen Epping on July 6th, 2009
Not surprising that viewing figures were down as they suddenly switched the finale to another channel to allow t*nn*s to continue on One.
Beki on July 6th, 2009
The final episode of Robin hood was awful. I don't understand why all of the major characters (including Robin), were killed off. I know that we Brits don't usually "do soppy", but that was such a cop out. Surely the writers could have come up with a better ending than that.

They should have done one last series to finish it off with the king arriving and giving nottingham back to the people. This would have finished it off nicely and it would give fans a chance to how archer would be as an outlaw. Archer can then become 'Robin Hood' in the series. They should wait and see what the viewing figures on the 11th july and advertise it more as since the first episode there were not trailers or advertising. Also the finale was moved with no prior warning and up against the tennis so how was it going to the viewers. BBC lost out there. Advertise it for saturday and look at it then.
Jumbotrousers, Birmingham on July 6th, 2009
The last episode is repeated this coming Saturday, 11th July on BBC 1 if you missed it.
GT on July 5th, 2009
Perhaps the viewing figures would have been higher for the finale if the BBC hadn't shifted it to BBC 2 because of the Tennis, most people like myself just sky+ programmes these days and watch when we want to watch, so i was real pissed when I got home and it wasn't recorded.

Loved both series 1 & 2. The third series was awful. The newer characters were obnoxious and irritating to watch, a bit like scraping a knife and fork together. Killing most of the characters was stupid and Tiger Aspect have lost further commissions now because of these stupid decisions.
Matt on July 5th, 2009
To right it was. The show was a sham and inaccurate. The cast looked too gay with bouffant hair styles and a lack of coordination. If your going to do these shows, perhaps being worried about being PC and twisting legends into trying not to ruffle feathers should mean the show should not be done.
hazelb on July 5th, 2009
I think the question is ' could the show survive without Guy of Gisborne?' ( Richard Armitage). Desipite Guy's demise, I may have been tempted to watch S4, but only if the writing improved dramatically. For me the costumes, sets and acting was good only the story lines let S3 down badly.
John, Bristol on July 4th, 2009
The advent of iPlayer taking distorting the viewing figures? But Hood without Armstrong is a non-runner. If Armstrong were to be written back in (fairly easy) it would work well. probably best in the autumn/winter. Has that enticing feeling of unfinished business.

If Robin Hood continued comparisons could have been drawn with the 80's series Robin of Sherwood where the lead character was replaced by Connery. However, the 80's series was far superior to Robin Hood. It was full of mystery for the man Robin and had the right balance of characters with good storylines. Robin Hoods characters were a load of misfits and the story was haphazard in its delivery. BBC were right to cancel it. It does seem that each series of late commissioned by the BBC - Dr Who, Merlin, Robin Hood has been designed to shock with their more and more outragous storylines. Bring back traditional story telling aka 60's, 70's, 80's Dr Who and 80's Robin Hood.

i was disgusted by the axing of primeval but i think this is different, number one you know bbc will replace it with another drama whereas itv will just replace it with a show involving simon cowell, ant & Dec and a phone in. no.2 you cant lose three main characters like that and expect it to continue, i'll look forward to seeing what the bbc replace it with

I think it was right to axe Robin Hood, however if they were going to axe it then why the hell did they have to kill of Guy and Alan, who are arguably two of the best characters on the programme! And in fact the only reason why I watched it. The only reason they had to axe it, is because so many people stopped watching it or lost interest in the programme after Marian was killed off. The only thing I think is odd, is why they didn't axe it after series 2, because after series 3 there was lots of scope to completely starts the programme with a fresh start, because very few of the original characters were there. Whereas after series 2; the writers had no where to go and where lost without Marian. Either way it doesn't matter, put when is Doctor Who gonna be back on (the specials this year) to full that gap on a Saturday!
Andy, Nottingham on July 4th, 2009
Shame - the third series was good stuff. Not surprised by that viewing figure - my freeview+ box failed to catch the move to BBC2 so had to watch on iplayer a few days later.
Juditanne, Perth, Western Australia on July 4th, 2009
Just proves this version of Robin Hood was outside the amateur capabilities displayed by Tiger Aspect/BBC in bringing this to the screen. It had the best possible actors who were horribly mis-used/under-used by lack of continuity. research but they delivered to perfection, ridiculous scripts they were handed so serves the entire Production Team, Exec. Producer, Management right for allowing this to happen. They collectively destroyed and sabotaged their own show favouring one of the worst villains in myth/legend by straying from tradition at the cost and success of what should have been. Fools!
Lucy, Hertfordshire on July 4th, 2009
To be honest, I don't think they can put the axing down to "poor viewing figures" because I reckon a lot of Robin Hood watchers might have missed the final episode due to its move to BBC2 - they could have moved Wimbledon over to BBC2 and therefore the viewing figures would have probably been higher. There's no way you can replace Jonas Armstrong - he is Robin Hood in this programme and no other actor could fill his shoes. They should have never have killed off Marion. But I definitely think its right to end it now...you can't have the programme with no Jonas Armstrong, Richard Armitage, Lucy Griffiths and Keith Allen, it won't work....oh and Joe Armstrong too - there's too many characters missing - it wouldn't have worked! End it now while the fans still love it!

How can they compare ratings of the finale on bbc2 with previous ratings on bbc1 .. look at the apprentice, when it was on BBC2 it got lower ratings but it gets more now that it is on BBC1...
Nicola, West Midlands on July 3rd, 2009
I enjoyed the Robin Hood series, but without a Robin, Marion and Sheriff there's nothing left to go on...you cannot make a series on something as iconic as Robin Hood without a Robin, Marion and a Sheriff it just wouldn't work and I'm suprised the BBC were even contemplating making another series that we all know would have failed...it'd be like Warner Brothers trying to make a Harry Potter film without the trio and Voldemort. So it was a right decision to axe it even though it was a good series.
Liam, Keighley on July 3rd, 2009
I agree with the blame shouldn't be given from ratings. The move to bbc2 unannounced was idiotic and unfair. After the last episode, I think it was the best place to end without possibly ruining 3 excellent series. I'd have loved to see more, but i'm content with how it ended. Brilliant end.
Katie, Northampton on July 3rd, 2009
I don't mean to sound disrespectful! But how dare you! Robin Hood has been one of the best things in recent BBC history! It's something that i for one looked forward to on a Saturday evening. And now you've gone and cancelled it at the drop of a hat! And you were just getting it perfect! It's been brill but series 3 was the best by far, and think what could've been done! And think about there are ways which you could've got out of it. There were/are poisons that make it seem as though your dead, and it could've passed out the body! I implore thee! I loved Robin Hood and so did many, many others! The reason for the low audience rating was Wimbledon and the move to BBC2! If it hadn't have happened and been put on the next week, there would've been bumper audiences! I think this is a bad decision! Why are all the decent shows being cut! The tV world has gone mad!
Declan, Manchester on July 3rd, 2009
How dare the BBC axe sich a good show. The BBC killed off this series by poor scheduling. They have made the worst mistake. And to think I had respect for the BBC. Oh well at least there's still Doctor Who.
Isla, Somerset on July 3rd, 2009
I was sad to see the series end as have really enjoyed it. IMO the series got better towards the end, but as most of the characters are now dead specifically Robin it would be rather silly to carry on, even with the 'we are robin hood' thing. They could have replaced Jonas, it would have taken a bit of getting used to but it would have worked i guess. At least still got Merlin!
Michelle Brogan, Somerset on July 3rd, 2009
All 3 series have been fantastic drama cleverly written and fabulously acted i'm sad Jonas has left but as the gang said there was still work to be done and IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A NATURAL PROGRESSION for Robin's gorgeous half brother to lead on in his memory with his loyal gang. It was such an amazing moving finale tears were streamimng down my face.
Hariette, South Wales on July 3rd, 2009
They cant really carry on with a series without the titular character. Dr Who can get away with not having him in one episode, but not the whole series. Why should Robin Hood be different???
Dawn, Staffs on July 3rd, 2009
I missed last episode due to move to BBC2. Sure many others did too, so unfair to judge the show by the viewing figures. Enjoyed the stories and the pace of the show but disappointed that they went against 'the legend' by killing Marion and Robin Hood. We have so few decent dramas due to amount of money making reality TV/competitions. Shame to axe it. Could have bought another actor to play Robin Hood.
phylo_roadking, Belfast on July 3rd, 2009
Thank God! It was truly awful.
CD, Liverpool on July 3rd, 2009
Why was Robin killed in the first place. They should make more to see what happans next. Now we have Merlin and Doctor Who now.
Edwin, Riseley on July 3rd, 2009
They were just getting Robin Hood right as they were with Primeval; now they are both axed. Wrong to state final viewing figures when it was up against tennis and put on BBC2. Oh Well! Back to Doctor Who I suppose!
EG, Berkshire on July 3rd, 2009
Shame it ended with such low ratings- this series has been brilliant! It deserved to go out on more of a high. Loved Isabella, and the way the dynamics between characters had been changed.
Katie, Eastbourne on July 3rd, 2009
Are they mad? this is the best series the bbc have come up with for years, and they left so many questions unanswered! Ridiculous decision to make, especially when they're still making truly awful programmes. They should make one more series, to get the king back to England, and for Archer to lead the outlaws. Dont know what im paying my TV licence for!
AJ, London on July 3rd, 2009
No way! i cant belive this, i was in love wit that show. Gutted when they killed off Alan. Even more gutted when they killed off Gisbourne and Robin. Now im beyond gutted that the whole thing is canceled!
Chris, Manchester on July 3rd, 2009
It would have been interesting to have seen how well the revamped RH with Archer worked, so I’m sort of disappointed there won’t be a fourth series. However, for this incarnation of Robin Hood, the last episode was pretty conclusive, hence a good place to leave it.
